997.1TT (Stock) vs. CTS-V Wagon (Highly Modified)

Just came across this article: http://jalopnik.com/#!5767853/watch-...sche-911-turbo

Obviously the slicks and mods make it like comparing apples and oranges, but it was a fun video to watch anyways.

The results are pretty close agains a stock 997.1TT. I would think a stock 997.2TT would walk away from even this highly modified CTS-V.

I would rather have a stock 997 turbo. Maybe to make it more comparable they should have ran it against a 997 turbo with a flash.

I'm with you, all else being equal, I'd take a P-car over a Caddy any day. It's definitely not a "fair" comparison given the level of modifications on teh respective cars.

I do think it's pretty impressive to have that type of performance from a car that is still relatively practical in terms of interior space and such. An it's a relative bargain if you're just looking at performance to cost ratio, but then again there are even better bargains if that is the only critera.

Ultimately, I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, just thought I'd share some interesting media I came across.

I bet the results would have been different if CTS V didn't have the slicks

they seem overly proud with all those mods and slicks for a tenth of a second over a stock Turbo.

Still, cool car though.

a4rings is infamous around these parts
do you guys really consider the CTS-V in this video as being "highly modified"? it has Tune/Pulley/Intake/exhaust/header/ thers ALOT left in that motor. and you are comparing a wagon to a 997 turbo.

I personally wouldnt call a intake/exhaust/tune 997 turbo as being Heavily modified.

I suppose it's all relative. As someone pointed out, the racing slicks alone are probably a pretty big edge for acceleration in a straight line.

Personally, I think spending more than 20-25% of your car's sticker price could be considered some pretty meaningful modifications (I know some may disagree), but that's just me.

From the Hennesey site, the V650 package (obviously a lot of the following are not performance related):

<table width="700" border="0"><tbody><tr><td align="left"> V650 Package Includes:

• HPE Cold Air Induction System
• Supercharger Pulley & Snout Upgrade
• Stainless Steel Long Tube Headers
• High Flow Catalytic Converters
• Stainless Steel Mid Pipes
• Intercooler Heat Exchanger Upgrade
• 160 Degree Thermostat
• HPE Engine Management Calibration
• All Necessary Gaskets & Fluids
• Professional Installation
• Hennessey Embroidered Headrests
• Hennessey Exterior Badging
• Hennessey Premium Floormats
• Serial-Numbered Dash & Engine Plaques
• 1 Year / 12,000 Mile Limited Warranty
</td></tr></tbody></table>

I'm personally a huge Cadillac 'V' fan. I had a 2005 CTS-V (LS6 motor) modified with a Magnuson supercharger, Kooks headers, Magnoflow cat-back, custom tune, pulley, intake and suspension work. My '07 Turbo with Fabspeed sounds like a Kia compared to the rumble on that thing. I used to pull 996 Turbos on the road course up the front straight at Pacific Raceways. Really fun car - especially for the amount of money I had invested in it. The new CTS-V motor is cheap to mod up and over 700hp. I've tossed around the idea of dumping my Cayenne TT for either the sedan or wagon CTS-V.

The stock exhaust is pretty good actually. The headrest embroidering is probably not netting much power either.

You really only need a pulley and a tune in this car to hit 11's as it does very low 12's stock.

How was your overall ownership experience? I know GM has really stepped up its game with reliability and such. Do you think the new V's will have some longevity to them if cared for properly?

I haven't owned an American car in some time, but I am certainly open to it given all of the progress that has been made. And the thought of having a V-Wagon w/ a 6speed is pretty darned tempting!

Don't forget floormats and the obligatory stickers (in this case, badging)...all have been proven to add immeasurable HP and Torque in the import scene .

Kinda like to see the same 650 put up against the 997TT with 650-HP, that's how you do it, not over-modify a family wagon.. Why don't we just put it up against the Chevy Vega??? Hate when people take time to do this, because we all know at the end of the day we'll be driving off in a Porsche... LOL

Well, to make it equal you also need to strip out 1000 lbs from the Caddy and make it AWD for the launch. The Caddy is not meant to be a replacement for a 911 Turbo. I surely can't imagine driving my Turbo to the grocery store with 4 other full size adults and then trying to haul back a full keg of beer and BBQ supplies...like you could in the Caddy.

My experience was good, not awesome. Just like Porsche, you need to find a good dealership. The first V's had some horrible wheel hop that contributed to grenading rear differentials. They fixed that issue in the new V's. I personally have no problem with trusting GM. The $60k Caddy certainly had fewer issues than my $100k Cayenne TT...and most here wouldn't have a problem buying a Cayenne. Truth is, most people just have a problem getting around the Cadillac image. I loved the fact that my Caddy lapped E60 M5's on the track!

Thanks for posting... I enjoy watching these kind of videos.

Gotta hand it to them...pretty slick marketing for Hennesey...they choose a car many love (997 turbo) and put it against a Cadillac wagon. I'd tune in to see this even if I didn't own a Porsche. That fact that I do just affirms I made a great choice. They could've picked a handful off high-end cars and they picked the turbo.

How can we convince the guy with the 458 and .2 turbo S to post something similar. Don't enjoy the Mexico freeway races as much as I do the track vids.
