Looking at a CPO 2009 Turbo Coupe?
Hi All-
I am a new member to this board. I have been researching to buy my first Porsche car. Based on my research I have decided that a CPO 2009 turbo coupe would be the best. I have decided this due to 2 reasons 1) It will give the racing 9A engine - hopefully with better and proven longevity 2) It will give me new electronics - PCM 3.0, Bluetooth and ipod etc.
I would like to have the following options: Sports Chrono, Adaptive Sports Seats, Bluetooth, and ipod connectivity
I am not in a particular rush to buy. I am looking for a good deal but only CPO cars. I was planning on spending $80K on this purchase. I know currently 2009 are not available and if they are available they are no where close to my budget ($80K).
Can the experienced members on this board help me in advising if the options I have picked make sense? Anything else I should consider?
Also, when can I realistically expect the 2009 to be available as CPO cars? Also, is 80K (of course with some negotiation) a good price for this car?
My goal is to get a good value and own the car for 15 years. Is it realistic to drive a turbo car for 15 years with good maintenance?
Thanks in advance.

I'd agree with your basic options menu, but add in a 6spd vs. the tip trans. In my area, heated seats would be on my list too. I think you'll wait quite a long while before the 09's get down into the 80's let alone $80M all in, if that is your maximum budget. I also agree that a CPO would be a great safety net, given the high cost for any catastrophic failures (ie. engine). Having said that, you will hear plenty from other member owners here that they can be driven hard and for lots of miles without major problems. Bulletproof comes up often.
There are 07's and 08's out there that can be purchased at lower numbers w/ CPO and members here have installed ipod and bluetooth capabilities with satisfactory results too. Maybe that's a way to get into the TT earlier and enjoy all the other aspects of the car.
Good luck with your search!

I guess what I hear everyone saying rather than wait for 2 years for 2009 to get to my price - I should buy a 2007 CPO car and can install bluetooth and ipod integration. The other option would be to buy a brand new (2011) C2 with fairly nice options for about $80K.
I guess the only place to find a CPO car is the Porsche website? Correct? Is $80K a realistic price for a 2007 or maybe 2008? Any other tips?

What do you think - Is it better to buy a Brand New 2011/2012 Porsche C2S (~80-85K) or a 4 year used 2007/2008 turbo (~$80-$85K)? Is the turbo's performance so much better than the C2S? My concern is that with the turbo I am buying a 4 year old car rather than a brand new car?
Also, as I said my goal is OWN the car for at least 15 years. How will be the maintenance costs on the 4 year old turbo in comparison to the brand new C2S?

If you want to keep it for 15 years, I'd go with a plain C2(s) with a manual trans. Regarding performance, well, it's about 115hp +- depending on the years you compare. Depends on how important power is for you. I test drove a 2011 C2 and a 2011 C4S, both were fairly quick. Both were manual trans. But no comparison to the additional 115hp+.
You'll start with a brand new car, latest engine tech, and a full warranty which you may be able to CPO at a later date if the dealer will cooperate. Less mechanical points of failure on the C2 as well.
If you're going to work with a restricted budget then newer is probably better, especially as the car ages.
Good luck!

I disagree. I think 80K including CPO for a 2008 is not that easy. (at least around here). Really depends on mileage and options. Can you find a CPO car for 80K sure. Does it have the options, mileage, etc. that you want? I know for me it was tough and I had to spend more than originally planned.

The thing that was swaying me for turbo was the extra power and primarily getting the GT1 (racing) engine. I was thinking that engine might be much more robust and last really a long time.
I believe in buying and owning cars for a long time. Currently, I have over a 13 year plus Lexus GS300 which I bought brand new. I do think $80K is certainly a lot of money for a car and would like to spend it wisely.
Thanks for your great advise. Please keep it coming.
I don't think you'll get into a new 911 for 80K either, but you may fine some older inventory at some bigger dealers. Problem with an older car for your 80K budget is CPO
is only 6 years after the in service date. If you're not in a rush keep poking around dealer
web sites and you may find a car. But for new 911 or late model TT, that will be tough.
Good luck, they are all great, durable cars

I would suggest a well maintained 07 or 08 TT. Most dealers will CPO a privately sold car for another 3k if it passes their PPI. Or you can always buy a cpo'd car from the dealer (5-10k premium). The difference in power, styling, wider hips, and clout of a TT makes a world of a difference (my humble opinion of course).
I was in the market for a used 997.1 c2s w aero kit but when I found out tt's could be had for not much more, I couldn't resist. I ended up buying an 07 TT manual 32k miles w everything that I wanted (sports chrono, gt silver, short shifter, full leather) for much less than 80k. The car even has remnants of the new leather smell. The dealer cpo'd my car and I had a couple minor things repaired. I couldn't be happier w my decision and I know that if I had gotten a c2s, I would always be thinking, 'I wonder what it would have been like if I gotten a turbo'. Every time I drive the car, I'm always thinking I can't believe I own a turbo and I have a grin from ear to ear.
That being said, my father-in-law has a '11 997.2 c4s pdk. It's really nice and plenty fast, but will never beat a turbo. =p
Good luck with the purchase.

Obviosuly, the allure of the turbo is always there...
