oil change milege
The dinosaur-oil age with its required 3-5Kmile oil changes has been outdated now for years. Synthethics were gov. requested/oil co-designed for less frequent oil changes to keep excess oil out of landfils. These syn-oils just do a better job of cleaning and holding combustion byproducts harmlessly in suspension for many more miles over dinosaur oils. And there is a lot of documentation showing its a waste of good money to do same oil change frequency with dinosoaur as with synthetics...following manu-recommendations is best. But its drivers money....they can pour it into the toilet if they think that best.

When I bought my first 911 turbo, some years ago,I changed oil with mobil1 0/40...After 1500km I took one glass of that used oil and sent it to blackstone labs for analisis...Everything was perfect and based on the wear the oil appeared to have at 1500km,oil intervals were suggested at 6500km...since then I follow that rule...

My last change on 997 GT2 was after 5500 miles, 2 track events, 1 autocross. I had an oil analysis done by Blackstone. Their comment on the status of the additives:
While the price of an oil change is cheap insurance, it's obvious from Blackstone's results that change intervals much longer than this are fine. The oil doesn't look pretty when it's drained, but as we all know, that doesn't have anything to do with it's capabilities.
The TBN was 8.7, plenty of active additive remaining in the oil for a longer run. A TBN is too low for extended use at 1.0.

I do mine every 5000k (currently have 31k on my 07). I also have had Blackstone do a few oil analysis and everything looks good. If you have a loud metalic noise at idle (which is normal for the GT1 engine but varies in loudness from car to car) like I do use Mobil 1 5w-40 TDT. Its a bit thicker than Mobil 1 0w-40 and it quiets down the noise significantly. This reccomendation comes from someone who rebuilds these particular GT1 engines for a living and has many years of experience. For those that don't have this issue Mobil 1 0W-40 is fine and is what the factory reccomends.
