Conflicted
Conflicted
Hi everyone, I'm new to 6speedonline and would like input from the turbo guys. I have always been a porsche guy-had a cayman s and traded it in for a 997tt (also have a cayenne). I am conflicted as my eyes have been wandering last 12months or so. I have basically test drove everything on my radar (F430, LP 560, GTR, ZR1, and R8). I am about to purchase a V10 R8 but my wife says I need to get rid of 997tt if I do. I would like your opinion on 911tt vs V10 R8.
Thank you
Thank you
Keep both and get rid of the wife!
Just kidding.
They are really different. The 997tt is more powerful, more readily tuneable than the R8.
I know of many folks who went to the R8, novelty wore off, went back to the tt.
Why not stick with the tt and upgrade that to the new 991tt when it comes out?

Just kidding.

Please elaborate on the novelty wearing off part as that is my main concern. I know the performance is less in the R8 but I really like the looks of the R8 and I'm buying the 6MT. (my turbo is also 6MT). My porsche dealer is obviously very opposed to this and mentioned the 991TT will have a much better interior, similar to the panamera. Also he knows I prefer MT and there's supposed to be a 7speed coming out. But I guess I really am mostly taken with the looks of the R8 and the midengine concept (like my prev cayman s)

Well, the car certainly looks nice, a bit more exotic looking than the 997tt.
But, after a while, you get used to the car's looks and it's appeal will begin to fade.
What happens next is you're left with how much you like driving it as opposed to the tt.
Does it give you the same adrenaline rush when you stomp on the gas pedal.
Then, if the fun factor begins to fade, can you readily tune it for more power to renew the thrill factor and fall in love with it all over again.
These are all things to consider.
For me, the tt in that regards is almost unparalleled.

I agree. If the one you love does not back you up in your hobbies with your money then dump that b____. Just Kidding
Although for me - I wouldnt put up with it.
That's what I'd do.

tuneability
I think the fact that you can tune these cars for a relatively nominal sum is really key to making the longer term ownership that much better than at least some of the cars on your list. I also have an M5 which, unless you want to stroke the thing for $50k+, is really not a tuneable Beast at all. I agree that once you get used to the "oomph" of a current ride, you want more out of it...I am so excited that I can do that with my Turbo for what amounts to very reasonable money as compared to the M car, which is getting lonelier by the day since I bought my new P car toy.
Thanks for all the input guys...wife is definitely staying as I love her almost as much as my cars lol (just kidding). I asked this exact question on the Audi forum and got the opposite responses as I expected. I am going to just make a decision and will post if anyone is interested.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
