I was looking at used 2005 cl65s and can't believe how cheap they have gotten. Tempted to get one but wondering if there are reliability issues? Had a cl500 and it had many problems which were pricey to fix. Any input?

 

well, for one, its a V12, and its a Mercedes Benz, unless its a sls, mercedes dont hold value like exotic's......

 

M-B doesn't hold value. Depreciation will kill you.

Along the same lines, look how much a Porsche goes down in value these days with the high production numbers. $45k will get you a fairly low mileage (50k-) 400+ HP 4 second 200 mph car pretty easily.

 

Because its a Benz and Mercedes Benz makes crap cars.

 

Wouldn't really agree, but between 00 and 06 were the Chrysler years, and those cars are notorious for reliability issues.

Sort of like the 04 Cayenne TT I had that was always in the shop.

 

If you get one get the extended warranty. We have a 06 CL65 that has a tune on it and man is it nasty fast. Biggest issue they have is the suspension. I've heard rumors a abc bypass is coming out. If that's so, there are very few other issues.

 

Any reputable warranty company will cover the ABC system front to back. Did two different claims this week. One a a CL65 and one on a SL500.

I love when people complain about reliability...they are very reliable...just pricy to fix...if you are complaining about maintenance costs and gas costs then the car is not in your budget. Remember brand new the car was $150k+ soo it will cost higher than a civic....you must pay to play.
ps...our AMGs have been bullet proof since day one...except the tires :P

 

2005 models has a lot of problems and everyone of them cost at least $1k to fix, maintenance is also high compared to other cars in its used price range. As mentioned they were over $100k new and the maintenance and part replacement reflects that.

 

Base msrp on the 05-06 CL65 was $176,000

 

I've always heard that the V12s are issue-prone, so that could be a factor in the 65's pricing.

 

It is not as much the engine as it is the suspension, the ABC..that is amazing...= no body roll, when it fails is super pricy but it is a very high tech system..
