If you don't mind a bit of work and hassle, expect to get more for your car if you sold it on your own.

Oddly enough, I was deciding between an R8 and a TTS, and did my fair share of research on the prices of both vehicles.

Depending on your original MSRP, on a trade, expect to be in the mid 130s to low 140s with a dealer.

Just curious.. What are the main reasons you decided on the R8 over your TTS? Shoot me a PM if you don't mind.

A trade in would really hurt you in my opinion. I would definitely try to sell it on your own. A dealer will give you what auction prices are fetching for your car. I don't have the figures, but for an 08 TT with low miles, it's like $70K. About $15+ lower than what you could selling on your own.

Agreed, you are much better off selling the car yourself, unless the time spent is not worth it to you.

Prepared to get screwed for a change of scenery.

Man, you need to rethink that. I don't think I would do that for even money. On the other hand, if money is inconsequential, then wtf.

Funny, I went the opposite way, went from a 11' V10 R8 to a used TTS. I got $133k for my R8. I'd assume it would be around the same for trading in the TTS since they are both around the same price. Both models are due for change as well.

Wow - two GT silvers! Why did you get rid of your R8? I was actually thinking about going the other way but with some reservations with redesign in 2014... Thanks!

I traded my TTS for the R8 and do not regret it one bit! Love the R8! Porsche is a great car but cannot compare the fit or finish of the 2 cars plus the(could not here anything from the Turbo) exhaust note is beautiful. The 0 to 60 time is the only real difference and at 50, I do not track the car, so I am okay with it.The R8 is plenty fast for me.

LOL, actually my 3rd GT Silver. I saw a nice TTS in GT Silver out at the Porsche of Rockford (great small town dealer btw) and jumped on it.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the R8. It felt more planted than the TTS does. The instant no lag power from the V10 engine was amazing. However, the attention the R8 got was not expected. I knew it would receive a lot of attention but not to the degree it did.

I would say it received 90% positive attention and 10% was bad. I had parked my car on Halsted (seeing you are from chicago) by UIC and had someone throw a glass bottle at it causing a door ding. TRUE STORY! I had also taken it to a club, valet'd right out front, and had someone punch my hood! I know these could have been prevented if I had not parked such a high line car on the street or taken it to a club but that's me. Besides, with my past 2 turbos, I've never had incidents like that and I was less carefull with them.

The breaking point was when I got pulled over on I94 by a state patrol. I got a ticket for going 79 in a 55 but that's besides the point I wanted to make here. Within a week after I was pulled over, I had 2 different random people who saw me walk out of my R8 ask me if that was me who was pulled over on I94 the other day. It just kinda irked me a little.

I know I asked for the attention when buying the R8, I just never thought it would be like that. BTW I only had the R8 for 4.5 months and bought it brand new.

I do miss the R8 but I love the TTS. It's such an amazing car and the PDK is an amazing piece of engineering. I couldn't be happier with my decision on the switch.

kittivan - thanks for the reply and I am sorry to hear about your unwanted attention and those damn jealous haters! I can only imagine how much attention R8 would generate over 997.1/2... I think that is one of the reasons why I am thinking about R8 - my silver 997 is sort of "invisible" and perhaps in a good way since it doesn't attract attention from cops and ricers.

I just moved here from NJ and look forward to meeting up some time. I am actually in the north suburbs but work downtown. Good luck and be safe!

Unwanted attention

Somebody left a lit cigarette on my 911 at the front edge of the frunk hood where it meets the gt3 type black air vent (its mouth?)
Nice people out there

sbkim - Welcome to Chicago. We've had fair weather here so don't think this winter has been the norms!

I actually remember your SN back when I was looking of my 07/08 turbo. You were looking for one as well or had just purchased one. I'll PM you my # and we'll get together some time. I live downtown.

The R8 is an amazing car, just wasn't for me though.
