Hello Everyone,

It has been a while since we have made a post about our 997.1 Turbo intake, so I wanted to make sure that everyone is familiar with our product. The Fabspeed intake is replacement for the entire factory airbox assembly. The original flat panel paper filter is gone and in its place are two conical filters feeding carbon fiber 90 degree tubes. The system comes complete with a carbon fiber heat shield as well as all other hardware needed for installation.

The power increase on a stock car is about 15+ hp and over 20 hp for a tuned car. The installation is easy and we have instructions that can be found on our website by clicking the link below:

Im running this set up, those cone filters connect right to my large EVOMS turbo inlet pipes and really breathes well.

What about the OEM crappy trunk lid design that let's in all sorts of water right into the engine bay after a wash or heavy rain? Wouldn't water directly hit those filters? Would that even be a problem?

Have my car washed at least 1x / week and usually every 5days or so.

Never saw more than few drops of water when opening engine lid, other than trail of water right on the seams of course and the drips from opening the lid

Then you are lucky Mozhacker! I have an 07 TT and water just gets all over the engine and belts. Do you wash your car or have someone else do it? I wash my own. Maybe that's why you haven't noticed Unless they redesigned them in 2012 to not do this. I've checked with the dealership about it and they said it's "normal" and the car engine is designed to get wet without issue. Porsche...engineered for everday...except when you want to wash it or leave it parked in the rain

Funny, some have noticed it, some not. I would appreciate if the OP can shed any light on this issue and if it affects air intakes like this one showcased.

 

Guys I'm running Fabspeed performance package on my car for over three years now, no issues whatsoever.

 

In a pinch will do myself but normally take to an all hand, pretty high end car spa place - Lavaggio in Agoura Hills, lots of exotics there. But I'm paranoid someone will slam shut the hood instead of closing right way so I go over almost all the time just before or as they open my hood/engine lid and remind the guys.

Cant say I did a full inspection but can't recall seeing much more than some water drops. When I've washed car myself I usually use a hose to do pre rinse but dont spray from the rear into the lid, but from top facing the rear so water goes in the direction of the vanes, not against it. Would that matter?

 

I never spray the vanes directly either--I spray water from the top down, just as you do. Where I've noticed the most water entering the engine is from where the decklid meets the glass on the back window. Water over runs that area and just soaks the engine. You've never noticed your belt squeaking after a car wash or rain? Trust me, leave your car in a heavy rain and turn it on, the belt will squeal (maybe that's my problem! Probably the only owner of 911 turbo that drives it in the rain! ) The belt and alternator get wet. The airbox gets wet too. I remember the first time I washed the car, as soon as water started rolling from the top of the car down the back window, I saw water sizzling from the engine bay . From then on, whenever I wash the car, I've placed a towel over the entire engine, closed the lid, then washed the car. Anway, I like this fabspeed intake if the air filters won't get wet. Maybe I got a great deal on my car because the dealership knew it had a defective decklid

 

Hi Guys,

It is possible for some water to get into the engine bay, so when washing your car, just try to avoid spraying directly into the deck lid. It is ok if a few drops of water get on the filter, you just don't want a lot of water getting on the filters while the engine on/under load. We have never had a problem with this system reported to us. If you want to be extra careful when spraying the engine cover with a hose, you can lay something over the filters first. MK23, I have on 07 TT and it is a daily driver. I shut the engine off as I go through a car wash since I get alternator failure codes due to the belt slipping as the car rolls through. I also lose all power steering after starting up from any rain or when I exit the car wash. I usually have to gently rev the engine to burn off the water. I never went back to the dealer or questioned it since everything went away, but I always seem to have a significant amount of water in the engine bay when I go through a car wash. I am just about ready to pull the trigger on the Fabspeed setup and definately would not want any issues.

I have also experienced the slipping belts on 911s, but I don't think you will get enough water in there to do damage. I would guess that the an automated car wash uses a lot of water compared to washing at home.
