Thinking of switching to the quad round tips for exhaust. Anyone have any particular ones that they recommend. I am going to go with black or have them coated black.

Not sure about any changes to the exhaust note. I have Fabspeed tips in black chrome, they look great but to me against the white but not sure how it would work on other colors. IMO the 997.1 OEM tips are too narrow, 997.2 tips although a small change make a signficant impact to the appearance.

I have Techart Ceramic Coated exhaust tips and they look great on a Basalt Black car.

The tips are purely aesthetic; they do not change the exhaust note at all. There are basically three choices:
  1. OEM
  2. dual round
  3. TechArt style (intersecting round)
You can buy most of styles in chrome, polished or black.

I have the Fabspeed quads on my 997.1 and love the look, but there is no difference in sound. However, I do really like the bigger exhaust tips on the newer 997.2's.

I got the 4 oval quads. Kept 'em on for 6 months or so. They looked too large for the more slender-designed looking turbo-teardrop holes. I guess, too much like the vette cans. Went back to the OEM new chrome teardrop tips, which for me, black or chrome, just looks more Porsche-turbo.

On an aftermarket exhaust, the note DOES change from ovals to dual tips.
I know that for a fact, as I have tried it with my EP1
Here are mine. Same as the link above, with the "nut mod" to make it easy to install and ceramic coated black.

will post more pics later.

Quad rounds look the best on the 997 in my opinion. Are you doing a matte black or gloss? Also, what color is the car?

No offense Dia but there is no way that a cosmetic mod that is not a standalone pipe is going to make a performance difference expect to MAYBE add or release backpressure depending on the exhaust single pipe diameter. Sound maybe because you are diverting the sound
There is nothing worse in the world than fake tips except the ones that have a massive tip and a tiny actual pipe. Now I will make an exception, the massive single pipe borlas on a vette look ridiculous, in that case where there is a massive pipe then yeah a tip makes it look better. Its never a performance gain though.
