?? 70,000 miles too much for Z06 ??
?? 70,000 miles too much for Z06 ??
Hey fellas, I would post this on the vette forums but since there is reasonable amount of Z owners here I thought I'd give it a crack. I found a 2006 z for sale with 70k miles and I'm interested it. I've been put of the vette scene for awhile and have been wanting to get back into one lately. So I just wanted to ask your guys opinion on if this is a good buy or not or basically will this car have problems around these miles or is there anything that I should look out for? Here is the car on eBay...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-...#ht_2411wt_948
Any input is appreciated

I have spent last 4 months researching Z06 market. I just bought a 2009 Z06...
I ran the Carfax on the car you're interested and first owner shows as corporate...that is somewhat of a red flag for me.
I think $34k for that car is too much.

Sure its more money, but it only has 14k miles.
Now onto your question if 70k miles is too much...this kinda goes both ways...are those hard driven miles or babied miles? Over on Corvette Forums, there are members with 150k+ miles with no major issues so that would indicate that 70k miles isnt bad at all.
If you still want this car, i'd try to negotiate the price down closer to 30k.

I recently passed on a 2008 3lz w/14k for $46k; I just didn't want to pay that much...I know that the 2008+ have the updated tranny, steering, and afew other things but if I can get a 2006 that is reasonably cheaper than a 2008 then it would make more sense in my mind...
But yes, if I were to jump on this I wouldn't pay more than 31-ish I want to say. I would also want to go see how it runs and looks in person even though judging by the pictures it looks very clean and the seats are not even as worn out as similar cars with this millage...
I owned a 2004 Z06 and traded for a MB CL55. I loved the Vette but at 18000 miles I was already trying to hunt down squeaks and rattles in the cabin. Unless the newer body style had some major quality changes, I can't imagine it would still be tight after 70000 miles. I would buy the car if it were under $30k
Do people really care about rattles in a zo6? The car is about raw power- It is not intended to be a luxury ride or float down the road. Take a ride in an older muscle car, the rattles are justified by the real life raw power. my $.02
I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to rattles! If I'm driving full throttle with the windows down and the exhaust blaring I'm not really thinking about rattles but when I take a long road trip driving a constant 70 with the windows up I like it quiet. I have a 2011 Spyder that has a slight rattle when I hit bumps in the road...it drives me INSANE! Maybe I'm

Well if I get a Z i'd be doing headers/x-pipe/exhaust so I don't think rattling would be an issue for me, now if my LS460 had rattles that would be a problem though because it's so damn quiet LOL
)However, I agree that it's a very "minor" issue.
Well, you may want to think twice. You'd be surprised what your ears can pick up even subtle sounds. As previously mentioned, despite all these mods that add to the "sound," it may drive you nuts in a long run (it drove me nuts but then I may be a very sensitive man.

. Aftermarket exhausts are a particular challenge with that premise. Take care.
Just drove my '07 C6 couple from Key West, FL back home to Arlington, VA on New Years day, 2012. I put over 2,000 miles on the car in just the last week of 2011 alone. It now has 70,000 miles on the clock and still is rock solid while looking showroom new. No squeaks or rattles here.
The main source of noise in a Vette, is from the crappy GY tires that come on car from the factory. Replace those with a better option (I currently use Michelins) and the noise & ride will be much improved. The Z06 comes pretty raw from the factory, with the track tuned suspension, aluminum/magnesium/CF body, less heat/noise shielding in the cabin & dual-mode 3" exhaust.. so its not what anyone would dare call quiet or refined. Adding headers/exhaust/etc will only make it more raw (which is a great thing in my opinion lol). I heard a C6Z with cam/headers/Corsa exhaust last summer.. and I'd rate the sound as 2nd only to a high revving V10 or Ferrari V12. It was also by far, the most intimidating sound I've ever heard on a street car. And I seriously doubt if many people would try to 'test' you, after pulling up and hearing that kind of intimidation.
But as with anything.. judge for yourself and get the best answer for you. There are plenty of stock (and modded) Z's for sale. Test drive both locally to get an idea of what to expect, but I think you will love it. Torque and grip are both absolutely mind blowing, even more so for a car that can be easily bought in the mid-$30Ks on the used market and in great condition. How dependable is the powertrain? Its bulletproof as long as the internals are left alone and forced induction is avoided. The 7.0 LS7 engine uses the same smallblock as the 6.2L LS3 that comes in the base Corvette.. its simply bored out with a few extra goodies thrown in. But that also makes the LS7 less somewhat less reliable when heavy modifications are made to the engine. Simple bolt on mods (intake, headers, exhaust, mild cam) are nothing to worry about. Finally for ultimate peace of mind.. All 2007+ GM vehicles come with a factory 5yr/100K powertrain warranty, which should give you more than enough confidence to purchase one with higher milage. If you were really concerned, simply buy as new as possible because of the extra factory warranty. Warranty protection starts on the day the vehicle was actually sold, not the build date.. so be sure to check that information with CarFax/Autocheck/etc. My '07 powertrain warranty for example, will not expire until May of this year.

Its a 7 year old vette that many buy to daily drive. Roughly 10k per year is average for a daily driver. Its not very rare or a collector of any type. Its a nice corvette. You can pay low 30s for that car or low 40s for a newer lower milage one. But the end result will be that you will be in exactly the same car with a differant odometer reading.
You pay low 30s and it will be much easier to get out of two years from now verses a Low 40s car.
In just two years your average z06 will sell from 20-30k for the 06-08 models.
Youll be happier knowing you paid low 30s for sure.
I paid 51k for my vette and just two years later it was worth 30k.
Chevy is constantly evolving or out right replaceing these corvettes so they go down in value very very fast.
If its clean buy it and add as much miles as you want with zero regrets
