997tt in snow and salt

I am selling my bmw x5 and waiting for my Range Rover to arrive. I am thinking of driving my 997.2tt in snow with winter set of tires. Does anyone know whether snow and salt can damage my car. Thank you!

Snow - no.
Salt - yes.

Salt harms every car, but the effects are not noticeable in a few years. Might take decades.

I wouldn't drive it in a NY winter. Rent a car until the RR shows up.

The thing is these cars are German. It snows in Germany and they are tested at the North Pole. I think some New York snow might not be a threat.
Drive the car, it can do snow and ice, just like a Range Rover can. It's a 4x4 car after all. It's meant to be driven anywhere. That's why it's a Porsche 911 Turbo.

Drive it and enjoy it. Unless there are 15 fresh inches of snow.

Rent a car for a month or two. Why **** it up when you don't have to?

just don't stuff it in a heated garage after a salt bath ride home.

what rover did you get? they are coming up with a new full size that will be 1,200 lbs or so lighter - i am waiting to see it next year.

I drove mine in NY snow with no problem. The only issue I encountered was because of the low front clearance which was making the car scrap on accumulated snow.

I love driving my TT in the snow! We don't get much snow in Victoria, but when we do I love to get out there with the other 4 X 4s. When the snow goes away, I do a full wash as soon as possible. Usually we get so much rain after that washing underneath would be redundant.

To each their own I guess, salt and moisture are bad combinations in longer term (3 to 5 years perhaps?), fastener threads starts to corrode and may become difficult to remove, ferrous surfaces will start to discolor.

There is no doubt salt in combination with moisture will affect ferrous surfaces even those which have surface coating like zinc phosphate etc. on fasteners, the car won't suddenly crumple into a pile of iron dust in 3 or 5 years but there will be an effect over time.

Only you can decide how you want to treat your car as we all have different mindset and perogatives.
