Talking My New-to-Me 997 TT :-) Fabspeed Exhaust Sealed the Deal

New to me, 997TT Tip:

PRICE CHECK

In case any other forum members are shopping and would like a price report... car was listed for $76k and was literally the least expensive 997TT I could find within 500 miles on autotrader. (It was also the highest mileage, with 44k miles... but with 1 yr of warranty left).

I negotiated 5k but rather then technically count it against the price of the car, they added it to the value of my trade in. Maybe 2500 'should have' been added to the price of my trade in for a 'fair value' wholesale price, so I guess you could say I negotiated about $2500 off the list price of the 997TT, in that light. The sales manager didn't seem too enthused about closing the deal (which took a while) so I'm guessing I just squeaked by with a deal (I was literally at my last $500 bucks and prepared to walk).

DRIVING IMPRESSIONS

My car is pretty loaded (thanks old owner!) with PCCB, sports chrono, some carbon fiber interior highlights, and (this sealed the deal) a FABSPEED EXHAUST!

I am an "exhaust guy". I get bored quickly without a motor soundtrack. My god what a beautiful sound with this exhaust. A low but menacing rumble at idle, a threatening growl when you mash the accelerator, and an outright wail if you decide to "0 to 60 on the on-ramp".

One thing I did NOT expect -- coming from the 997.2S PDK -- was the jekyll and hyde character of the TT. From 0 to 20 mph, bumper to bumper traffic, you can drive it like a Lincoln town car, if you like, with soft pillowy suspension to keep you in comfort. But if you decide to thrash the gas a bit or god forbid you have a clear onramp to work with -- hold on for dear life.

Still, it was surprising to me, that the suspension was more comfortable than my 997.2S (even when the .2S was in comfort mode). Maybe that's just how the AWD system feels.

I have to say I didn't really miss the PDK (in THIS car). All things being equal would I take it in a 911TT over the Tip? Yes. BUT. I just can't see myself wanting to di*k with shifting when I'm driving a 911 TT hard. It is just too d&mn fast. Between the turbo and AWD you just point it in a direction and WHOOSH you're there. It's kind of a nice way to drive , if you can get used to it -- start the engine, put er in Drive, and rocket yourself in any direction!

I took a bit of a leap of faith (and somewhat of an impulse buy) in picking up the 997 TT but -- was liking the car more and more on the ride home. I can definitely see how a NA 3.4L / 340 hp would seem underpowered if you drive one of these monsters for a while. Anyway thanks to those 6speeders who chimed in on my other thread today. I look forward to lurking on a few years of posts in this sub-forum shortly...

Dude, I am SO glad I got the Tip. I have the exact same look and paid close enough with less miles but thats not the point. The point is you are going to thank yourself EVERY day for that tip. Its kinda like a custom mode for a car game, when you want to play its there. You can just concentrate on DRIVING and the fun feelings of the forces at work instead of heel to toe shifting or trying to PDK it and if you had a BMW SMG or a PDK you know what I mean. You spend so much time thinking about the paddles you miss the experience of the drive.
Thats what rocks about the tip, you can experience the car so much better.

Exactly. In a base 997 auto I would def "need" the PDK vs the tip to make the drive more exciting (and to get into the high rev range).

There just isn't time to concentrate on shifting if you're pushing the 997TT. If you gun this thing you better make d&mn sure you have two hands on the wheel and 100% focus on the road!

Absolutely agree with a Tip this car is "like a video game". I completely respect how others have the most fun pushing a 911 base or Gt3 (or even 911TT MT if they have the ability) hard with their manual 6spd and get the 'full experience'. The whole "put it in drive and rocket blast" is just a DIFFERENT, and also highly addicting, kind of fun.
