2005 sl55 v. 2006 sl65
2005 sl55 v. 2006 sl65
Alright, looking for a speed toy for the weekends. Was thinking Aston Martin DB9 but the SL's seem more zippy and less expensive. Have narrowed to a couple cars; 2005 sl55 with 39K miles and a 2006 sl65 with 53K miles. No warranties but clean cars. SL65 is about 7K more asking price.
Help me out; is there a better mantenance records with either and which is the best in your more eductate opinions? Seems the SL55 would be better for in town with the V8 but I just don't know enough about the V12's and it seems to be a better deal.

Have driven both and both are amazing cars. My boss daily drives he SL65 and it has been very reliable. Being an AMG it will be a little more expensive to maintain, oil, tires, etc. The 55 can suffer from some heat soak with the supercharger but can be fixed. I do have to say it would be pretty fun going up to your friends and say yes it has a v12 twin turbo engine...hah both are torque monsters.
The SL65 has a carbon fiber engine cover, more alcantara and depending on the interior color, you get cross stitching too.
I had red interior with black leather on the dash and other areas....the red contrast stitching looked amazing.
Be prepared to go through rear tires as often as the 911. It is just an absolute torque monster.

SL65 no question... Having owned 2 cl65s in the past, including an 05 that i had for 2+ years, the TT V12s are some of the best engines on the planet. Obviously you're gonna wanna have a rainy day fun in case any of the big $$ items need fixing but I never had any big issues outside of normal maintenance. Well that and the rear tires that kept playing a disappearing role when i would drive more spiritedly. Any questions you have about the motor itself, PM me and I'll answer what i can for ya.
Speaking of rainy day funds, when I was last at Mercedes having my C55 serviced, I asked the tech which AMG car he sees in the shop the most. He said it was the TTV12 models. He said the maintenance costs are off the charts and recommended that I not buy one! My good friend has one and hasn't had any trouble with his. He also says the power is second to none.
