A great start to 2013

Happy New Year to all.

I hope things went better for you on the 1st January 2013 than they did for me.

After spending most of the day washing and waxing the car I went for a drive with my wife. During the drive I decided to back track on ourselves so reversed up a random drive way and when I drove off the driveway kerb back onto the road heard a very loud clunk from the rear of the car.

We stopped at the shops a few minutes later and when we returned to the car there was a large puddle of oil under the back of the car. I could see oil dripping from the sump and a closer look revealed a crack in the aluminium.

The kerb on the driveway was not high and I believe one of the rear wheels flicked something up as I drove away.

Waited for a short while for a tow truck to take the car to the Porsche dealership when they open on the 2nd. I'm sure this won't be a cheap fix.

Sorry the new year started off wrong...so maybe the next 364 days will be better. That crack doesn't look like it came from something kicked up by a tire.

Aww cwap! That sucks. Hope hope its just the cover. Just wondering... How long did the car run after the clunk? That def didnt come off a tire. Maybe the curb edge / corner was slightly higher than you thought?

Sorry to hear. I'm assuming that's the lower oil pan that is damaged?

Provided nothing else more serious is damaged inside, the part is:

9A1 107 032 71

which has been replaced with a new part number:

9A1 107 032 75

This part is the same for the 9A1 engines (thank goodness for modular engine designs.)

I do not believe you can buy the lower pan by itself. It comes with several components...seals, torx screws, etc.

It retails $523.94

It does not look like an engine drop will be required, although I have not worked this engine enough to know for sure. Hopefully, the cost (while painful) may not seem to be overly excessive. Had you owned a 07, 08, or 09 997TT, the crankcase is in that area and costs over 6K, and requires an engine drop and major engine work to replace. Good luck.

If those are what appear to be scrapes, it looks like you definitely hung it on something. Sorry about the rough start

Beautiful car by the way. Love the color.

Thanks for all your posts.

Have been advised the replacement part has to come in from Germany and may take two weeks. Approximate cost of the replacement part only will be around Au$1500.

Will keep you updated on progress.

Thanks for the compliments. I have been told by PCOA that it's the only IBM Turbo S in Oz.
