Market value: 997 GT2 Switzer P800 vs Bone stock?
Market value: 997 GT2 Switzer P800 vs Bone stock?
Im interested how the board and the market would perceive the value of a 997 GT2 modified with the Switzer P800 package vs a nice unmolested GT2, say all else is held equal, both cars 7,000 miles with no track time.
While I know the Switzer package is expensive to install, does it increase or possibly even decrease the value of the car?
Say you could buy each for $135, which would you go for?

I'd say it doesnt change the value of the car (not much at least) but probably makes the list of ppl willing to buy it much smaller. If one must sell it fast one might have to drop the price.
At least here in Sweden modified cars usually drops in value. A well known name helps but I dont think any modification (except maybe a good exhaust) adds value when selling.

You'll get various answers to this question, but to someone like me who prefers modified cars, it will increase value. I'd take a Switzer P800 over a stocker any day, and would also pay more for one.
I purchased my GT2 about a year ago. It is heavily modded (http://www.reevesimportmotorcars.com...ne-Article.pdf) and I paid about the same as if it was not modded. It had more work done after this article.
Since I like to modify cars as well I would certainly prefer one modified already (especially by Switzer). I would pay more as well.
Good feedback, thanks guys.
Scott - So if I read your profile right, you're going on your 5th Switzer car??
That's an endorsement! How do they hold up under daily use? This car
Will basically be my daily driver.

A properly modified car will always bring a premium. Lots of forum debate on this subject but most of the nay-sayers are people who dont enjoy modifying and/or would never own a modified car. I almost always buy properly modified cars and I will pay a premium for the right car. Over the years I have always been able to sell my further modified cars at well over market...mostly because I try to go above and beyond when putting them together.
A really well cared for Switzer 800 would most certainly have an audience willing to pay a premium for something they would consider building from scratch anyway. Imo of course.

I would prefer a switzer GT2 over a stock. Switzer is top of the line from what I've heard so it should def bring an additional value to the car. Good luck with whatever you decide though.
I think the size of a market makes a lot of diff, and the "culture". In Sweden modding cars are not really considered positive. A friend had a AMG E55 with a Kleemans Stage 4+ setup, he got slightly less than what a unmoddified E55 would go for when he sold it.
I sold my 335i this fall, if I havent returned it to stock it would have been almost impossible to sell here.
I have seen a Protomotive 650 car in top condition being unsold for over a year because they are asking for slightly more than an unmoddified car.
Again, personally a Switzer P800 would be worth more to me if it has good history.

Having sold two modified 996 GT2's in the last year I can tell you that the majority of buyers want bone stock.
The two I sold are very well know cars. Both low mile, extremely clean cars with no stories. Both sold for the same money as stockers.

John - I simply can't say enough about them. I've been through a number of different tuners over the past 12 years and they are by far the best ones I've dealt with. A Switzer P800 Porsche or GT-R is a perfect daily driver and will be *extremely* reliable. Take care of it properly and you will have no worries at all. Good luck.

John, this particular black swizter p800 GT2 from NJ? If so I've seen it around and on Ebay recently as well. Looks well put together minus those Vossens on it. It was aggressively priced from what I remember and it looks like the owner took great care of it. I see more porsche purists and older gentleman looking to pay a premium for unmolested/unmodified examples due to the nature of reliability and "old school nack" of "keeping it stock." The switzer package is well put together with nothing short of quality parts..Stock wheels would have sure brought more attention and willingness to bid (although I am a fan of HRE's, CCW's, BBS', and other quality forged wheels). Great car nonetheless!
