Cool Feedback on GMG Exhaust - 997.1tt ???

Hey guys,

Just recently picked up a 997TT 6MT, and I love the car. I have been planning to replace the exhaust even before I got the car to lower the EGT (track the car in very hot temps) and for sound.

Now that I got the car, I am STUNNED at how the engine is basically silent. I cant even really hear the engine enough to downshift properly, its incredible.

That said, I think I could deal with an exhaust that is quite a bit louder than stock. I really don't want boomy low frequency drone at 2000-2500 RPM, but I could deal with kind of a raspy metallic sound which it SEEMS like the GMG exhaust has. I like a more raw sound.

Anyone have any feedback with this exhaust? I haven't found a ton of good info on it when searching.

I am also considering europipe, but fear it may be too quiet, and I also am not a huge fan of the sound, it is kind of boring sounding in vids (IMO).

Thank you for the feedback and any other suggestions anyone may have.

Hi, i have the GMG on my 997.1 - it was on the car when i got it. The sound is definitely exotic, and loud. It can be intoxicating, honestly. I've tried to take a good clip, but haven't really been able to. I can try to answer any questions you have.

It does drone quite a bit between ~2200-2600RPM. Of course, with a stick, thats not a biggee.

Having said that, it's a bit too loud for my taste, and I think I would rather have a EP. I'm deaf in my right ear, and the volume precludes practical talking to my passenger....

Edit - not sure if you've seen this thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ditioning.html

I just got it on my car along with a GIAC tune. I love it! It is pretty loud, but I don't think it's too loud. It sounds extremely aggressive when you step on it, it's very addicting. When you're just cruising along it's louder than stock, but not annoying. There can be some drone between the RPMs already mentioned, but with a stick shift you can just shift out of that RPM range. It's not that bad anyway.

I have a Cargraphic exhaust, pretty nice sound, not too loud. Dealer told me the turbos themselves naturally absorb most of the sound from these motors.

I had the GMG, great sound and good HP gains, but too loud and boomy around town for me, so I went to the Cargraphic.

Our SpeedTech 3.0 loud would be a great choice for your goals - even our 2.5 quiet is much louder than stock and has a great high pitched, exotic tuned sound....then we also make a pure 3" X-Pipe that sounds incredible!

Here are a couple of videos:

I have GMG and everyone that hears my car for the first time always remark how exotic it sounds. Before I bought my car I was sold on Europipe but GMG is a very close second. As for as noise it is a touch of drone and loud for my taste.

I have the GMG and it is great! I have driven quite a bit with it now and I can say it sounds great. I don't think it is too loud but it has a little drone in the mid 2000 rpm as is the case with any after market exhaust that I have heard. I just can't seem to keep my foot out of the throttle so I am never in that range anyway ;-)

*****************************

If you're going to track the car, just beware of sound limit on some tracks. Just came back from Laguna Seca (Sound Limit 90db, sucks!!)... Got a black flag with the stock exhaust, measured 92.2 db. Got around it by not going full throttle up hill after turn 5.
