Would you buy this 997TT? Please help!!!
I saw a 2007 911 Turbo with a hair over 55k miles; dealer was asking 64900 without CPO. After some debate and a quick test drive we agreed on a price of 65k WITH a CPO. The dealer requested I give him a minimum deposit of 1000 dollars which I agreed to (charged on my VISA card). I asked the dealer for a copy of the DME report as I had done some research on buying the 997TT on here and many of you guys reccomended it. Today I my loan was approved and I was all set to pickup the Porsche minus 1 thing. That damn DME report! I texted my sales men back and forth all day nagging him for it and around 4pm he finally replied back to me with a message saying "good news there is no engine damage" I will post screen shots of our conversation. Bad news is the car has over revs, I am really confused on what to do at this point. I have always wanted this car and worked really hard the last 12 years to make this happen so I really don't wanna pull the trigger on the wrong car. I am attaching screen shots of the DME and the conversation I had with the dealer.

Any over rev is a concern, that is why they are reported! But the engine is very good and can stand quite a few (up to 2).
It looks like this engine had one overspeed range 5, which is 1.888 h ago. Range 5 is bad and rare. But this is already 2.000 h ago. Consequently the engine seems to be OK. No damage.

Honestly, the car is probably fine. You should have everything inspected, but I would be surprised if there are problems. You will get many opinions here, but I can't find any evidence that confirms that cars with over revs (any range) are more prone to engine problems. Likewise, I can't find evidence that cars with NO over revs are less likely to have engine problems.
That being said, your dealer will tell you what you want to here. Please ask him if PCNA has documented that it is "only an issue when it happens within 50 hours." I'd be interested in hearing his response.

My .02, you're probably safe that it's fine but it will impact resale value, lots of people will avoid any stage 5/6 overrevs, myself included. There are just too many other cars out there that don't have them. With that said, if you can get a good enough deal it makes sense as you may have to discount it in order to sell it down the road.

I would want something in writing saying CPO will cover any engine issues given the overrevs. What he said about the service manager looking the other way is BS the local service manager doesn't make the call on a new engine.
I just bought my car 6 month ago from a Porsche dealer in New Jersey & it's CPO. They have to give you a contract for the Porsche extended warranty. I will say go for it... Porsches don't brake if you take care of them, they like to be driven. If you get the CPO they will take care of your problems...
Service manager can look the other way if I ask him too...... LMAO....
That is shady salesmen talk to the power of ten, even if it were true what happens when that guy leaves or even decides to change his story.....
Porsche North America asks to see all pertinent info regarding a claim, the Service manager does not get to wave his Jedi hand in front of the PNA warranty representatives face and tell him "This isn't the DME report you are looking for" and then all is good...
But that being said, these are very stout well built engines and many people that mod them raise the rev limiter well into the level 5 and 6 ranges and then run there cars very hard for a very long time.... But that being said PNA has all the power to deny any claim against the engine warranty they want if they deem the problem to be a result of an over rev.... There is NO set amount of time in writing past an over rev that is considered acceptable as far as PNA is concerned!!!

An incorrect downshift could have caused the over-rev which can lead to valve problems immediately or even at a later date.
An over-rev at acceleration is not as dangerous, that is why we have a rev limiter. My TIP has had its ECU re-programmed by GIAC to extend red line to 7,000 RPM. Can you find out what RPM is level 5?

I would take te text messages to the sales manager and have it documented that they recognize the over- revs prior to CPO and also the comments from the salesman about the service manager looking the other way. All this will help you CYA and maybe get another couple grand dropped off the final price.
Update:
Thanks for your replys guys. So I spoke to the manager and he actually gave me in writing that they will take care of any issues that come up even if Porsche denies my claims in the future do to any past over revs. They sound like stand up guys. I ended up buying the car and on my drive home I was all smiles!
