996tt vs 997.1tt differences?

Hi guys!

I tried to search but didn't find an answer. What is the difference between 996 turbo block compared to the 997.1 turbo block or is it the same? Also what is the difference between the two engines overall? Except the turbos and software of course.

Thanks guys!

something in the cams are different ("pinned" ???). the 996tt has stronger cams.
the ecu's are compeltely different, the 997 uses a seimens ecu. there are minor differences on the head design as well.

I saw both engines apart if you ask Porsche there's one big change and that was the rods. I did hear that the 996tt cams are better not sure.

I thought the .1 was a Bosch while the .2 was the Siemens unit.

I did read here that the fuel system is better in the 997, there is a thread here by divxxetreme on his switzer build that lists some of the differences...

Thanks guys!

So basically if I was going to build a race engine (aftermarket pistons, rods) I could use the 996tt block for the 997tt project?

no you would use the 997 and pin the cams. the head design is a little different ion the 997, less likely chance of a head gasket going. there are some other visual differences as well.

i was wrong, the .1 is still a bosch.
the 997 has 2 fuel pumps.
the 997 and 996 are worlds apart in other departments, for example AERO.

the 997 produces much more downforce and far less lift.
