65 chevelle convertible thoughts?
65 chevelle convertible thoughts?
I'm thinking of picking up a 65 chevelle convertible non ss 289ci with 110,000miles. Car is a driver but needs complete interior (gauges, wheel, dash are fine) and paint (body/floors/frame are clean though). Hoping to re paint the car and do the interior and flip it in a year or two. Market seems to be there but would it be realistic to get 15k for a 65 chevelle convertible non ss 289ci?
I have owned about 12 or so 64/65 Chevelles,Conv,hardtops,ss's,4drs,wagons.El comino's. It's impossible to say what a fair price is without a ton more detail and what you plan to do with the car after the purchase.
I'm hoping to pick up the car for 5k and put another 6-8k~ into it (paint, trim interior, motor refresh, maybe new top) and hoping to sell it for 15-17k. Seems people like 65s alot and it's pretty common to see nicely restored non-ss convertibles go for low 20s or am I wrong thinking it would be pretty easy to get 15kish for a nice driver?
Have tossed around the idea of doing a somewhat budget resto-mod build with an LQ4/LQ9 but don't think I'd get as much money back, then again the market seems pretty strong for resto mods these days.

Don't think its a 289 as thats a Ford motor..283 maybe. I have a number of muscle cars from a 70 Boss 302 to a 66 triple black vette convertible..all original on both cars as well as a pro touring 71 z28. Bringing it back to "original" you can't do without the original motor. You will not be able to do the rust repair, paint for under 10k at best(having not seen the car)Anytime you get into paint and body unless you do it yourself its VERY hard to come out ahead on these things..for what its worth.

You are far better of finding one that's done to your liking and buying it. There are 2 very nice convertibles in my neighborhood. The guys paid way less than 15k and I am certain they cost way more than that to do. Very nice cars too. One is that teal ish color and the other fawn....a very light brown/beige both original colors.

The body on the car is very straight, no rust anywhere and the car is very complete. Other than paint and minor trim work it's pretty complete. You are indeed right 283ci 2bbl L32 was a typo 289, original motor/trans was just planning on doing a simple refresh which wouldn't be too costly I can do it all myself just have to outsource the bodywork. I got quoted for a good friend 6k for full soda blasting and complete respray of the car. So I think I can easily get it done for 12.5-14k (I have a complete interior already) if I can get the car cheap enough.
Would like to have a little fun for it for a summer or two and then sell it and use the money for a property. Seeing as how many unpopular muscle cars sell for 15-20k I just thought it would be very easy to sell the car between 15-20k as there are virtually none restored anywhere for that price.

53 f100 love it endlessly! Although broncos are on the up ad up like mad it's crazy how they we're everywhere not even 4-5 years ago and now all the clean ones have been scooped up.
I'm going to Mecum in Dallas in Early September and Barrett-Jackson in Vegas at the end of Septermber so far I'm on the hunt lol
