How much power can a built 6 speed trans handle if it is built while still retaining a clutch that doesn't chatter or require an extreme amount of pedal pressure to engage?
Obviously there will be increased pedal pressure but I would love to keep the car fairly driver friendly...plus the wife likes to drive the car every now and then.

Im no expert but based on experience, 600hp at the crank.
My GT2 started slipping when I got it to 620hp at the crank, and that is typical from other members with similar power gains and clutch slippage.

and I beat on my car like a rented mule. When we opened it up to
install a 997 GT2 main shaft and gears, it was in perfect condition.
100% stock with a clutchmaster stageIII.
It was perfect after a year of being at 550 and then 650 hp.
Now it has gt2 mainshaft and gt2 1st,2nd,3rd with steel synchros
to 4th and a cms billet side plate. (I'm 1000 hp crank now)
and I'm running a ERP triple carbon w/ steel fw.
Also with that amount of torque you have to be a bit mechanically sympathetic IMO as you will blow it up if you do not engage gears/clutch properly.
It is still a beast of a gearbox!
I had a REAL 650 hp to the wheels ( that's 850 hp on AMS dyno )

This is good to hear very re-assuring!

layinback, thanks that is great real world facts.
GTRNick, I agree and everything I have read has supported that it is a strong gearbox with the real weakness being the clutch.

Reading your sig.....you have top notch gear on your car! FVD is good stuff.
I have the FVD Brombacher 3.8 P & Cs.
The stock gearbox is strong but it's not "bullet proof" per se. 3rd gear is a
weak spot and the classic pinion bearing-thrust bearing debacle is ever
present.
The box is better than most and I was fortunate , but some reinforcement
couldn't hurt.

Sorry for the thread hijack

How do you find the 3.8 kit? I am thinking of doing this at the moment or the 4.1ltr because my car has the dreaded coolant leak from the cheap plastic pipes. So my engine is out. Did you do any other work to the engine on top of the p & c's?
Good to know the info about the box. Can you PM a list of parts you have used for strengthening please
Yes FVD is great and customer service is good to. Rhonda and ***** always look after me when ever they can.

No worries, I actually am located about 90 minutes from FVD headquarters in Umkirch so this discussion is very interesting to me. I am looking for some mods and have considered them as a source but hadnt heard any feedback.
You seem to have the full FVD kit.....what are your thoughts?
