GT2 RS Exhaust Mod?
GT2 RS Exhaust Mod?
I was fortunate to recently acquire a new to me GT2 RS in absolute mint condition and kept pristinely by a serious collector. As most of you know, this is a limited production model with only 500 produced worldwide and (to the best of my knowledge) only 130 delivered to the US.
To get this beauty I had to sell my 997.2 GT3. One thing I miss about the GT3 is the awesome sound that naturally aspirated Mezger produced as it screamed up to 8400 rpm. The TT Mezger revs to just 6800 and produces a much more civil exhaust note in my opinion (though the hp and torque are ridiculous).
So I'm toying with the idea of replacing the OEM muffler with the SharkWerks exhaust mod (just replacing the muffler . . . no cat removal or anything invasive). The mod would do nothing to the car that can't be undone (it simply bolts on where the OEM muffler is now). I'm still concerned, however, that as a limited edition this might effect the perception--and therefore value--of the car going forward.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on the impact this might have.
Thanks.

I don't believe the gt2rs exhaust is modular like the 997.2 non mezger, thus you can't just change the center muffler, not 100% sure. Gmg makes a nice gt2 exhaust, cats and all. Personally, I would leave it stone cold stock.

I agree . . . it just doesn't sound like it. If I can achieve a better exhaust note without compromising the integrity of the car, I'd like to explore those options.
I could never compare my old 997TT with your new GT2 RS but I changed the exhaust 4 times because it just didn't sound like a sport car at all...

Did you try SharkWerks?
No...(I don't think they have Sharkwerks exhaust for the 997TT)

I'm meeting with a tech at my local dealer tomorrow and will ask about this. SharkWerks, however, has pics of this mod on its website (I've attached two here) and claims this mod bolts right on to the OEM cats and muffler brackets.

Congratulations on adding the amazing GT2RS into your collection, we have been blessed to have a few GT2RS Porsches with us recently and we offer everything you are looking for. Please let me know anyway that I can help you further.
I own more than one GT2RS and have experimented with every exhaust option. I feel that the GMG product, specifically for this car, sounds the best and delivers a bit more power. You will never replicate the NA sound, but can achieve a nice rumble.
Thanks. Have you put a harness/roll bar in any of your 2 rs?
