997tt- track wheel & tire advice

I am going to do 5-6 track days this summer. I have 20" HRE P40s with PSS tires. I don't want to rip them up so I thought I would buy a set of 19s and a badass set of track tires. Don't want to spend an arm and a leg. What is a decent set of wheels and a bad *** set of track tires to buy?

Also curious as to what is the recommended offset for a 19" track wheel for a Turbo.

the oem 997 turbo wheels are incredibly light weight. they are a 1 piece forged wheel...

another great choice is a set of 1 piece Champion wheels.
as far a tires, your best bet will be the michelin cups in 235/305 sizes. they are the lightest tires in that size.

19" OZ Ultraleggera's are lighter than stock wheels and great for track and if you can spend the doe the superforgiata's are even lighter!

Going through this myself.....

I've narrowed it down to 18" wheels w 255/35 front and 335/30 rear. R888's (drive to track) to start with the option of going to r6's (trailer needed) later. OZ Allerggerita from Tirerack are light and not expensive but the front is limited to 8.5". I recently heard about Forgestar (also appear light and not expensive) and am in the process of selecting 9.5" front and 12" rear after I finish researching offsets. 9.5f sounds doable but will be tight.

There are a few different wheel options you can go with, but if you wanted a nice sticky tire -i HIGHLY Recommend going with the new Pirelli Trofeo R

Give us a call for more information!

If you want to buy new wheels go with an 18" wheel so that you can run Nitto NT-01, probably the best DE tire out there.

If not and you want 19's you can't beat OZ ultralegerras, light strong, inexpensive.

I run them with following config

8.5 x 19 F with et53 with 7mm spacer = et46

11 x 19 R with et 40 with 7mm spacer = et33

You have several options on tires with OEM sizes. Many run R888's they are cheap but they do fall off a cliff once they hit so many heat cycles. Depending on your skill I would start with a nice street tires, MPSS are great, then go down to a RE-11s, and from there things get expensive.

Reducing unsprung weight makes big differences at the track (better steering response, braking) I run OZ Ultraleggera 19 inch wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cups in stock size at the track. Has transformed the car's performance.

Looks like the rears need a 295/35 but Nitto doesn't list that size.
Joe,

You would need to run a 235-245/40 up front an a 305/35 rear which Nitto does carry.

Whats weird is they do have a 235/35/19 but no matching rear for our cars. They have been slowly releasing additional sizes I hope that they add the rears in 19 this year.

I thought the diameters had to be about the same.
235/35/19 -OD 25.5
305/30/19 -OD 26.2

2.6% delta on OEM sizes with the set up above your at 3.8%. There are guys running this setup and have not had any diff issues. I do not run these as I have 19" wheels.

The 18" sizes above also match the OD of the OEM sizes.

Yes going 245 brings in the ratio closer to OEM specs.
