Considering a new to me 07 997TT Need a little direction
Hi Guys,
I have been watching pricing on the 997.1 and early .2 models for a while now and think I have found one that I am interested in. that said what should I be looking for prior to pulling the trigger on the purchase.
Carfax is clean, it appears to have good timely service records. Optioned with PCCB, Sport Chrono, 6speed manual.
The pricing on this one is at the low end of my target, that would leave some room to add a couple mods after the purchase.
The car has 40k miles on it (2007). A bit higher than I was hoping but like I said the pricing is very affordable. From what I have seen these cars are ok in the higher miles if they are properly maintained.
I know Ill need to get the brakes checked out since they are pricey to service. Anything else that I should look at immediately?
I have noticed DME reports coming up often on these boards but honestly dont know what that is? Is this done at porsche as part of the PPI? Is there a scale I should use to gauge the DME findings?
Any help/ direction would be helpfull. Thanks in advance.
If anyone on here is considering selling their 997TT PM me, I have been watching the for sale section for a few months. There was a good one in Texas recently but I was late to offer on that one, at the time I was till debating the 997TT or R8 as my next purchase.

mechanically, these cars are bullet proof. ive put over 100k miles on my 2 turbos (within 6 years on the dot) combined. and i beat the crap out of my cars. the motors dont break. the tranmissions dont break. (clutch slave cylinder is another story)
with that being said, the only thing you want to check for is paint work.
oh and get a reading on the pccb's rotors.

Definitely get that as part of your PPI and post the results here if you would like some help interpreting the results, the DME is about $300, cheap insurance honestly.
Readings in ranges 5/6 are very concerning.

I have a car in mind. Headed to the dealer for a PPI and DME report tomorrow. I'll report back with the findings. Thanks in advance for your input. The car I'm looking at has PCCB I know these are pricey to replace. I have heard $10-12k. Any idea of the estimated life on these rotors .
SPM, replace the pads. most wait for the pads to wear out before replacing them, thats what causes the rotors to wear out faster. the secret is to replace pads once they get to 50%.
ive got 75k miles on mine, my rotors are still well over 95% of the original thickness.
as far as dme reports, i pay no attention to any of that stuff. the only overrev to worry about is a mechanical overrev (i forget what range that is on the dme). (shifting from 3rd to first at redline). and if that were an issue, your would hear it. drive the car, pull a few gears to redline... make sure she's smooth. take her up to 80,90 mph, SLAM on the brakes, make sure the car doesnt pull in one direction. play with the steering wheel, left , right, left , right.... listen for knocking sounds coming from the front while youre doing it. take some bumps, make sure the struts dont knock.
good luck i hope you get it !

Thank you so much. Looks like I'll get my turbo this weekend. So excited. The car has H&R springs on it currently. Seems like mixed reviews on the boards. Perhaps I'll look into alternative suspension options. I'll drive it for a while as is
Ive been looking for a thread such as this one.
I however, am still a few months out from a purchase. We have to close on a new house before I'm "allowed" to.
If I had created a thread like this, I would have been waiting for Steve to chime in, this guy seems to know his stuff. I almost bought a 996TT from him around this time last year.
Good luck on the purchase and post some photos of her!

Alright, Im all set to pick up my "new to me" 997 Turbo on Sunday. Quick Question for everyone... What are your thoughts on an aftermarket warranty? Who does everyone use?
I have been reading up on the .1 radio (PCM). I was disappointed to learn there was no Bluetooth with these cars.... (I have a 07 tundra and we have Bluetooth factory installed). Any suggestions for an aftermarket add. I would love to use Bluetooth for phone calls and would be even better If I could stream audio from my Iphone
Lastly, It looks like adding LED DRLs and .2 LED Tails will make the car look a little more current. May research these a little more on the board.

For bluetooth and ipod, the best IMHO is Dension; do a search on this forum for more info. I have MoBridge and it works ok, but I do not recommend it (it's temperamental and has a beeping noise for ipod audio).
Congrats on the PCCB - a great and rare find. You'll see what it feels like to be stopped by the hands of God
. Inspect the rotor for crack, not necessarily wear as it's very difficult to see PCCB rotor wear - if it does wear at all for a street driven car. Make sure to change the pads every 35-40 thousand miles regardless of whether the pads still appear to have life left on inspection. It is suspected a number of track related PCCB damage is from worn out pads. For all practical purposes a street driven PCCB rotor should last 100,000 plus miles, at the minimum.

Excited for you!
+1 on the dension (Eric at bumper plugs) and I agree with Can on the warranty. It almost like when you have it you never use it but if you don't you need it. But wil 911TT's they are generally pretty great. I would say unless you have bad luck the it will cost you less than the warranty to care for the car.
Give me a buzz when you get it. I may even know the prev owner.
