Advice on Track Wheels and Slicks. Stk vs. OZ vs Forgestar
Okay, So I am hoping you guys can give me your input. Long story short, I own a Champion Built 997.1TT and run Time Trials with NASA and DE4 with other groups.
I am at the point where I need to make the change from Z rated tires to full road racing slicks in order to remain as competitive as I need to be. Well I have read serval posts of guys saying the stock 997.1 TT rim makes a great inexpensive track rim, however the only issue is that they are 19in and not 18in. Well through an odd situation, I currently have 3 of 4 TT rims sitting in my garage (FedEx lost one, long story, no its not replaced).
So the situation I have is, do I spend $450-550 and buy one rear OEM TT rim and try to find someone who makes 19in slicks? (Which I would appreciate some advice on if there is someone who makes those as I have had trouble finding them). Do I break down and buy a set of OZ Rims in 18in and run Toyo RA1s on them, or do I try out these Forgestars that I have heard people talking about, get them in 18s and still run the RA1s?
To my knowledge, the stock 997.1TT rims are extremely strong and relatively lightweight, the problem is I cant seem to find slicks (brand and model) that i can run on those rims. I would rather not have to buy an entire new set of wheels as these are just for the track, but I may not have a choice.
So with that said, who if anyone makes 19in slicks that I can run on 997.1 TT rims and what model? Or should I go with the OZ or Forgestars instead?
Thanks for the input! I have a few weeks before the next race and I need to make a decision.

You should be able to run Hoosier R6's on 19 inch stock rims with 235 & 305 tires great track tire btw ,i ran them on my OZ in stock sizes ,i also just sold them here on 6speed in the classifieds section Oz Ultraleggara with Hoosiers & had to practically give them away after being up for sale over 30 days, sold them today for $1100 .I'd make sure you check out a turbo with 18 inch wheels 1st they look pretty small imho i know it's a track wheel but you still wanna look good.

A bit pricey, but the Oz Superforgiata is ridiculously light. The 997.1 Turbo wheel is very light for what it is, but the Superforgiata is in another league. It makes HRE's look heavy too.
I'm a new track junkie. I went the 18" route due to more choices. Also, if it's good enough for the race cars....
I've got Forgestar C14's on order. It'll probably be end of Mar before I get them.
I would have gone OZ, but they are limited to a 8.5" front. I ordered a 9.0" FS and you can specify the offset. I wanted a 9.5" front, which is suppose to just barely fit, but I didn't want to gamble whether it would rub w/o an agressive track alignment.
I'll probably run r888's in 255/335 although i may still consider the N1 in 245/305. Hoosiers could be in the future if/when I'm ready to trailer them to the track.
If you are going with Hoosier like slicks, you're planning to trailer to the track and you've already got agressive camber to take advantage of them?

If I can help on the OZ's, please give me a call

^^ Damon (sorry for the hijack), what is going on with Kumho V710? i'm running 245/40/18 and 305/30 and there was a veery long back order situation last summer. Ordered some from you a few months ago but see on your site you're down to almost nothing.
Am I looking at another summer without them?

Yes, I do trailer my car to the track and I currently have an aggressive street/track alignment but plan to go even more aggressive once I source wheels and put slicks on them. I am not sure exactly as to what those alignment specs need to be yet, but plan to do some research.
Yes, the OZs are definitely light, but the OEM ones are only 2-3 pounds heavier or something like that if I recall correctly? While I understand the whole theory of unsprung weight, I'm not sure if it justifies the additional capital expenditure. While I don't mind spending if its necessary, I want to verify I really need too!

9.0F @ 50mm (FS recommended 50 and not 9.5F). I found one 997tt using 9.5F @ 52mm (aggressive track alignment, not overly wide tire, no rub), but we'll want wide for grip!
12.0R @ 48mm (FS recommended 51). My 20x12 @ 44mm & 325/25 are nearly flush, so the 48 mm should work for a 335/30.
FS said 5-7 weeks.
IMO, the fact that you want slicks points to the 9.5F rim to get the max grip. Then the question is what's the offset for something like a 245 or 255 Hoosier.

Thanks for the advice, I have decided to go with the Forgestar wheels. I will give them a call Monday and put an order in. One of the fastest guys in my region runs the FS wheels in the 9.5 Offset and it obviously works well for him.
So my next steps are to find out what tire size to order slicks in as well as what alignment specs to run. Need to make sure I don't have any rub with the wider rims.
