30,000 mile service.....new spark plugs and...

It's time for my 30,000 mile service. The dealer tells me I need new plugs in my 2008 TT.

What else should I have done while they drop the engine?

Also,it will be my last service before the warranty expires. Is there anything specific I should have them look at?

Any input is appreciated.

They don't have to drop the engine for the plugs. We just lowered the back edge a little and they came right out. I am right there at 30000, I replaced my plugs then I had to do a clutch about a month later. Everything else looked good on mine. I did check the coolant hoses, since some had issues with theirs.

I had these items addressed since the car was 6 years old at the time (milage had not met criteria for maintenance, but time did): fuel pump, belt, and all wheel drive controller oil

As indicated, engine does not need to be dropped, just lowered about 3-4 inches. I just did mine myself and no engine removal required. Might just have them look over your transmission and differentials for any leaks as well as front steering seals for leaks.

Cars are pretty solid.

Clutch at 30K....

Was this by choice or, was your OEM unit toast? Simply surprised to hear that at 30K your clutch has to be replaced!

My recently acquired stock 09TT has a slipping clutch at 27,000 miles. Very frustrating that during two trips the dealer it wouldn't do it. It's prone to slip when it's making big power, relatively cool temps both car and ambient. When I get to the dealer it's hot and it doesn't happen. Ih has to be in a higher gear, on sports chrono and at full boast. It's get to about 3-4 grand and the engine and tach needle go's crazy. So far the dealer has been sympathetic but until it exhibits the problem for them they won't do anything and I can't blame them.

Warranty did nothing for mine!!! It would have been nice though. If it is slipping get it fixed or you are likely to get somewhere and not be able to go anywhere.

Just a thought...Leave it at the dealer overnight, so when they Dx it, it will be cold, just as when you experience it? Worth a shot.

A clutch is a big time wear item thus no warranty is going to cover it unless there was a recall due to an admitted fault in the part.

Good input on the clutch guys, I realize it a wear and tear item not covered by the CPO, but it first happened to me not that long after purchase. The general sales manager has been reasonable about stepping up but it has to exhibit the symptom first. I've thought about leaving it at the dealer but it's a pain as he is over an hour away from my home.

I think it's 40k miles, but also at 4 years. Questionable benefits at 30k. I had mine done at 30k and didn't notice any perceptible change in performance.

DEFINITELY don't do it at the dealer. An indi can likely do it for under $1k. At the dealer the service is going to run you $2k plus! Definitely beneficial to shop this one.

The service manager at the dealer has been very good to me over the years. He is the one who said the service is more due to the age of my car than the miles.
I don't know any local Indy shops. I will call the service manager and ask if I can bring my own(Suncoast)parts.

He quoted $1600 for plugs and 30K mile service. I also need rear tires.
It is not inexpensive to drive a TT,but as you guys know, there is no substitute!

Wow, after reading through this thread I am surprised how common the clutch has gone around the 30K mark. Mine did as well…I thought is was just because my vehicle is mainly used at the track and rarely sees heavy traffic (bumper to bumper, rush hour commute traffic). A friend of mine lost his clutch on a 08 around the 30K mark as well.

Are most of you guys with clutch failures at 30k miles stock?

Mine failed right at 27k as well, however I had an ECU flash and full exhaust on the car.

How can the clutch go at 30K?

That's a little more than half way through a 3 year lease at 12K at brand new.

Im at 20k and no slippage on my 07.

I've tracked and beaten the sh*t out of my past M3s and taken then up well over 30k miles and never burned a clutch.

what's the stock repair on a new clutch cost?

Thanks in advance!
