Cool Audiophiles that love Porsches or Porsche owners that love audio

Maybe we could run a little OT thread here for a while (it's been a long winter!). You may have seen my budget audio install on the 997 board. The impetus came from music appreciation and a love of high end audio. I'll post my system up later. Please add a pic or two of your system and any comments!

Good post as our stock sounds system is absolutely horrible but I'm used to all the creature comfort compromises because it's such an awesome performance car. But yeah, I'd love to hear about some nice budget upgrades.

Well, it's not budget but I just set up on the bench my new Alpine INE-w927hd. Going to do the install when the snow leaves here...
It's going to make a huge difference in convenience and ease of use over the PCM. I can't wait.
Going to do the backup camera too with a wireless transmitter for the video. Should get those components tomorrow.

I love both audio and Porsche. So here is mine. I bought my car with all the electronic goodies already installed so I can't comment on the price. Head unit is Alpine INE-W928HD. It's an huge 8 inch display and I love it. It's like new 991 display as a screen fills up center dash nicely. Watching movies and music videos are awesome. I wish it's my daily driver.
Component speakers are Focal 100KRS K2 on doors. Subwoofer is Alpine 2 X 8" in custom enclosure. Sound quality is top notch. Very clear and powerful bass.

Mine has the same setup, except I have Jl Audio subwoofers.

I was also thinking to introduce some home audio into the mix. Here is my rack. Starting with the PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC and Squeezebox music server feeding uncompressed digital audio from my home computer via ethernet. Rowland Concerto preamp with home theater bypass. Parasound C2 home theater preamp/controller. Cable box/HDMI switcher. Panamax power filter. Parasound A52 5 channel amp for surround channels. (pardon the clutter, one day I'll take a pretty picture!)

All feeding Jeff Rowland monoblocks and Aerial Acoustic 7B speakers. Sanyo HD projector to an 83" electric screen for home theater. Hsu sub for movies only. Surround speakers mounted in wall.

Seems like perhaps you haven't seen my thread. It has become a bit long now, but there is good info. I'll summarize the first page soon with the culmination of install tips, but I also don't want people to miss the contributions that others have made along the way. The mod on a .2 reaps even greater benefits as the head unit was improved, but none of the drivers!

I was going to post some pics on that other thread that got audio hijacked lol, but this seems like a more appropriate thread. I've been an "audiophile" for as long as I've wanted a Porsche 911 turbo - almost 30 years! My bro was surprised that I hadn't decked out the car with a great audio system but the car is so loud and rumbly with the AWE exhaust (even louder when I have the cat-delete pipes on) that I didn't think it made sense to put in a better stereo. I may rethink that, especially after seeing what some of you guys have done with your cars.

Home is where I do my music listening. I have a dedicated room set up for home theatre but mainly a 2 channel room:

Speakers are active ATC Anniversary 100s, C6 centre, JL Audio F113 subs (2 in front 2 in back). Surrounds are active ATC 50s.

Here's a view to the rear:

I don't have a pic of the equipment rack - I also have a turntable! Latest addition was the Trinnov ST2 room optimizer. An amazing piece of gear which was the icing on the cake for this room.

100 inch wide 2:35 aspect dropdown acoustically transparent screen:

I have one of those....but here's some audio equipment that you are NOT going to find many examples of these days...

and the matching "Quadraphonic" amp in the bottom of the picture:

Heathkit built electronic components for a few decades and closed down in the 80's. BUT...thy were all kits. You had to build them. The FM tuner in the first picture uses about 10 circuit boards, and about 80 integrated circuits to provide the first "Digital Tuner" on the market. It's specs were lab quality and still are by todays standards.
The amp was "Quadraphonic" in other works 4 discrete channels. It was the first surround sound in it's day.
Now I have both of these and both are UNBUILT. The FM tuner could well be the last one left in the world. Quite the collectors item as long as it's not built!
But this is a snowy months project when the 997TT's in storage.
I hope to build the tuner though and ad it to my modern home theatre....but these things are rare and perhaps I could use the sale as a down payment on a future 997 upgrade!
In case you didn't know, those 4 buttons A,B,C,D allow you to select your FM stations.....but there are four slots behind the from panel which hold "computer Punch cards" which you need to punch out to select your station!

Second system first as it has proof positive of how nutty I am about audio. Forget the Magna Planar 3.5 panel speakers, look at the little laptop system on the left side: it is also planar magnetic ribbon speaker! :-) Otherwise, this system is *all* tube: Sonic Frontiers DAC, VTL power amp, Conrad Johnson Premier 16 pre amp, Sunfire subwoofer, under the Christmas tree .

Picture taken with the marvelous Nikon 14-24 zoom, shot in raw. Speaking of nutty hobby...

Exhaust question

Hi Cannga,

Sorry for posting this here, I tried to send you a PM but I don't have enough posts. I joined this forum just to send you this message

I am looking to buy a Cargraphic exhaust for my new 991 turbo S but I'm stuck between which version I should get.

I've read many of your posts on the matter and you seem to be very knowledgeable on it so I was hoping to get your opinion.

I'm debating between the SUPER SOUND and the SUPER SOUND PLUS. The PLUS seems to have an X-Pipe in place of the silencer.

Which version seems more like the one you have in your 997?

I would really appreciate your help, thanks so much!
