Educate me on 2009 GT2
Hello Gents!
Long time Lurker here, I have been a member of these forums for a very long time but never posted. I searched a lil bit on the forums but didn't quite find what I was looking for. So I thought I would just make a thread to ask the experts on here...
During my hunt for a C63 BlackSeries, I accidentally came up on a very sweet deal on a 2009 GT2 [2009, 21k Miles, never tracked according to the seller]. Now I know what GT2's are but have very little knowledge about them. I was hoping if someone could point out a few known problems with them, what to look out for in a used GT2? Anything specific I should get checked or looked at? Any maintenance issue I should bring up with the seller? I am going to have a look at the car tomorrow and will also be getting a PPI done by the local Porsche dealer. But any and all help from the forums would be great help and and very much appreciated.
BTW, whats your take on between a C63 Black Series and GT2. I will be driven occasionally on the weekends or whenever the move strikes, but definitely won't be a daily.
Thanks
- Jay

Congrates on your Lurking's. I absolutely love the GT2 but, I think I could do that better for much less than just an emblem. Do some research on the standard turbo version with just a ECU upgrade. Add suspension and you have a perfect car for much less.
If you wont daily drive the car, why would you choose a 4 door car?
I also own a C300, not same car but, I get the smoothness part.

Dont forget the GT2 is always going to be valued higher and hold its value better because of its initial higher price and limited production.
I would kill for a GT2. More HP stock and REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!!
Is it worth the increased price difference when you could get a much newer (2012-13) Turbo for the same price and get a warranty, PDK, sub 3 sec 0-60....well only one person can make that decision....

Yes, a 6 speed Turbo X50 Package combined with a few mods is definitely a good option but a few things I do not really care about them are AWD, PDK (6 speed cars are very hard to find here) and the fact that they are on every other street here [Dubai].

And more over the offer is too good to pass if the car is as clean as it is claimed to be.
What I really want to know is if these cars are notorious about anything. Any common problems with these cars? Anything I need to get checked specifically while I get the PPI done.

Yes there notorious about killing unexperienced drivers & thats why there're nicknamed the Widow maker ,not the safest choice for your 1st 911 myself I like the safety of the AWD on the turbo which has saved my *** several times ,but a truly beautiful car that demands much respect GL.

The GT2 can be a handful to drive from what I have read. I do not know your skill level but the AWD systems on the Turbo's are as close to flawless and I know it has made up for my errors in the past.
If you are not a skilled driver I think the car can be downright dangerous when pushed to the limits. At the very least, be forewarned. Maybe not a bad as the Carrera GT but called the widow maker for a reason.

First off great choices in cars. The Black is basically a 2 seater, well not basically it is.
I was in the same boat. Turns out the 911 turbo, just crushes the black at every stat, except exahust note.
So for a 2 seater car ( 911 has pathetically usable rears, as Clarkson says for your skinny kids, because if you have a 911, you have a skinny wife) you would be better served with a 911 turbo.
Frankly, as cool as the black looks, you would be happier in a Tip or PDK turbo. Although I would take the black over a 911 turbo 6sp.

Also make sure that you can insure the car with fully comp insurance. UAE insurers get leery about insuring a car over around 7-10 years old.
If you want an unusual Porsche in Dubai, in my opinion you'd be better checking out a 993 turbo. I have no connection with the seller but one of the dealers on SZR has a rather nice one that's advertised on Dubizzle. No late model Porsche will turn heads here like that one would.
usual wear and tear on the GT2, same as the turbo 6MT.
Is it the ruby red GT2? I would check and see if there is a tune on the car. Coolant hoses usually give up at a higher mileage due to our heat and the rubber becomes very hard and brittle; so its not necessarily dependent on mileage. PPI with the local dealer and buy extended warranty and you are good to go unless you want to start modding.

1. only 20 2009 GT2s and 185 2008 in the US
2. razor sharp steering which is very light
3. strong transmission gears, LSD, and much more firm clutch
4. the best that Porsche has to offer for that time period (with turbos)
5. no sun roof
6. ~ 400lbs lighter than turbo (and you feel it)
7. wider rear tires (325)
8. more oversteer and less understeer
9. shows the inadequacies of a driver where the turbo make everyone look like a pro
10. adjustable suspension, 25mm lower stance, built for track
do a search within 6speedonline...I wrote some comments on my GT2 and others added their thoughts. You'll be looking at plugs now and a belt soon. Oil and brake fluids of course. These cars are nearly bulet proof! An added warranty for piece of mind. The clutch might need replacing...you never can tell how soon they'll go out.

Just picked up a 2008 GT2 with 5k miles and CPO. I love this car.
thoughts and observations:
- They are going up in price
- It's easy to drive on the street and love the feedback through the seats, shifter, and steering wheel
- Body and suspension was stiffer than how people described it on this forum
- Clutch is pretty heavy, but I like it
- PCCB brakes are phenomenal
- Knowing that only ~200 shipped to the USA, it feels special
hope that helps

Thanks for the comments guys, I had a look over at the car and she's a beauty
. Unfortunately the seller has a very busy schedule so couldn't take her for the PPI at the Dealer just yet. Have to wait till next week!
Heard about them called the "Widow Maker", I guess it's a good thing my wife doesn't know much about cars
@Simey - I can promise you that this car (or the Black series) won't be used to just drive up and down on Jumeirah Beach Road or cruise down Dubai Marina on the weekend. I feel exactly the same way when I go down there and see so many Aventadors, 458's, McLaren's just driving up and down the street the whole night. But I also cannot promise that I will track it, I want a weekend car, something that I can fire up and enjoy some of the open roads out of the city. Something for the pleasure of driving and something to be proud of owning. I will check on the insurance though, thanks for the heads up
@maverickdxb - Nope, it's not the Ruby Red on Dubizzle. Actually it has not been advertised for sale anywhere yet. I just got the first crack at it and if PPI goes well, it won't be advertised either.

Another minor point is, acknowledging that I am among the very small minority who feels that way, that the GT2 clutch is unnecessary heavy; way too heavy for my taste. The beautiful seat has to be dropped in, and climbed out of, meaning caution for those with bad back, hip, etc.
But yes, for a weekend car, you are not going to get better than 997 GT2, the very best that Porsche engineers have to offer for 911. BTW, the reputation for widow maker is 996, not 997, GT2. Then again, any car would be a widow maker if you don't follow basic common sense, such as of course slow in fast out and NOT driving GT2 on wet roads with those R Comp tires.
