CPO report given at delivery?
CPO report given at delivery?
I apologize ahead of time for this rant but I am completely upset with my purchase experience and would like to share my experience.
I preface my rant by saying that this purchase of an 09' CPO'd Turbo is the 5th turbo/turbo S I have purchased in the past 4 years. Also I'd like to mention that this was the 4th turbo I have purchased from this dealer or its affiliates (3 from this specific dealer, 1 from its affiliate).
I saw the Turbo on the dealer's website and called my salesperson whom I purchased an 07 turbo from 11 months earlier. I set up a time to come in to look at the car and asked if there was anything I should know about the car before I come in such as work that has been done to it, work that will need to be done, etc. I was told that the car was Certified and ready to be CPO'd so no work needs to be done. Also, I was told that the car was super clean with just normal wear and tear on a car with 40k miles on it.
I arrived and took a quick walk around the car and didn't immediately notice anything to worry about. I then test drove the car and at this point I did notice that it seemed to have just recently been sprayed with that "new car" fragrance. Again, I didn't think much of it. We took the car out for a short drive and came back to work on numbers. I told him I'd buy it today for $80k CPO'd (they had it listed for $83 non CPO'd). He went to ask the GSM and came back and shook my hand and said we have a deal. I asked him again just be sure, $80k CPO'd correct? He assured me the price included the CPO.
I filled out the loan application and left to take care of some business. I received a text from my salesperson and asked me to call the GSM. I called the GSM back and he told me that I got approved for the loan but there was an issue with the price. He said that the price is actually $80k not certified. I was upset that the deal was not honored and that he had already ran my credit and shopped the banks before telling me this. I should have backed away from the deal right there and then but decided to go ahead with the deal.
When I came back to take delivery of the car, I asked for the CPO report so that I could look it over. They said service had it and they were out to lunch right now and would send it to me later. I didn't think much of it. The car also had a black from plate bracket and a chrome rear bracket at delivery. I may be a bit OCD but I asked for matching brackets and my sales person said they didn't have any for me but I can purchase them from parts. Really?
Well it was raining that day and by the time I got home I noticed a substantial leak coming from under my glove box. I checked the drains and sure enough they were clogged. I figured that would be caught during the CPO inspection, maybe it wasn't part of there XX multipoint inspection? Also I noticed the leather showed water damage from where the leak was as if the drains had been clogged for some time now. I thought to myself not a big deal as long as the electrics are ok and the car isn't moldy. I took care of the drains myself.
The following day I got the chance to hand wash the car and examine the car better. I noticed a decent size dent in the front bumper that was obviously touched up. I was mad at myself for not catching it. Surely this was something that would be on the CPO report though. Also, I looked at the tires and they had winter tires on! Again, because of the confidence I had in the certification process, I failed to look closely at the tires. This is another $2k cost that I hadn't figured when purchasing the car.
I contacted my sales person and told him about the bumper and tires. He told me that no one at the dealer saw the mark on the front bumper and said it must have happen while I had it. This was completely false as the bumper was obviously touched up and the car went straight from the dealer to my garage, there was no way this could have happen during that time. I asked for the CPO report to see if they were actually listed in the actual report. No reply. After numerous attempts to receive the report I went into the dealer in person to which I received the cold shoulder and was told customers normally didn't get the report.
I understand this all could have been avoided had I did my due diligence and went over the car better but at the same time I feel ripped off because I trusted my dealer to do the right thing. I had faith in the CPO and had a false sense of confidence. I don't understand why the dealer refuses to provide me with the CPO report which leads me to believe that maybe one wasn't even done?
BTW, remember that new car scent? Well that went away a couple weeks later and was replaced by the sweet scent of cigarettes!
I am a month out since the purchase and have a very sour taste from this experience. At this point I don't know what to do. Am I wrong to think that we are supposed to receive the actual report as I have received them in my past CPO purchases?

Pic of the bumper. Ya, I can't believe I didn't notice it either. However, the car was sitting in the lot and was dirty. You can only see it clearly in certain lighting and angles.
Really sorry to hear about your problems. Some of these dealers really are sleazy.
I had good luck with my purchase which was sight unseen long distance. Bought the '08tt in February, and it was delivered in March (bad weather) with all books and CPO paperwork. If you can't get satisfaction from the dealer, you might try contacting PNA, but with nothing in writing, you might just be out of luck.

Glad your purchase went well kwik. I'm just upset at the way they handled a repeat customer. They had a recent change in management since my last purchase. I guess their values left with the old management.
Wow, that is quite deceptive on many levels! Sorry for your ordeal. At a minimum they should give you the CPO report.
Can you share the dealers name so I can make sure to avoid them for future purchases?
Thanks,
Adam

I really don't want to be insensitive, but you aren't a newb. You have owned numerous Porsches and probably know the drill here. Dealers should never be trusted for anything and you should always get an independent PPI. You broke both if those simple rules. Caveat Emptor, but I'm sorry you were taken advantage of.
As part of the CPO purchase process, the salesperson is supposed to go over the entire CPO inspection report showing you the various findings, repairs and percentages of wear on brake pads, tires, etc. You then are supposed to sign the CPO report and you get a copy of it. They then put the "Porsche Approved" sticker on the door jam. I just bought a CPO car last week and went through this very process.
If your car was newly CPO'd, you should have got the report.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Is your car CPO or not? I'm guessing you paid 83k with CPO. If it is then they should have been given you a certification and report. I hate to say this but you should verify your car is actually CPO.
Best of luck

Just call PCNA and give them the VIN to confirm this.
thank you guys for the replies. My car is definitely CPO'd (2 years warranty from the date of purchase) but my question is if they actually went thru the certification process. The dealer to this day refuses to give me the report. I found it shady that they retracted the deal and said it was $80 not including CPO. Either way I Paid the premium to have it CPO'd. I still have not received the CPO report.
Napleton Porsche of Westmont is the dealer.
I take responsibility of not getting a PPI, or looking over the car carefully but as a repeat customer I had certain expectations. I never would have thought the dealer would have treated me this way post sale. Im not looking to return the car, I just want the CPO report to assure that it was actually went thru the certification process. By them refusing to give me the report raises doubt whether the car actually went thru the process.
Had i received the report at the time of delivery, I would have at least saw the snow tires being listed and the dent in the front bumper would have been brought to light. I can't believe I was sold at turbo with snow tires in the summer without it being brought to my attention. Yes I should have did my due diligence but come on...

what can I say, I love the car and I'm always in the market for one with better options, lower mileage, etc. More of a reason for them to treat me well since I am a repeat customer!

I am currently trying to trade the car in for a different car and unless I have the actual certification report I am being offered Less than if I had the report.
