PCM Failure after Stereo Install
PCM Failure after Stereo Install
I finished installing my stereo tonight and when I started the car Im getting a PSM failure notice on the dash. I have searched the forums and it says it should go away after driving for a little while or try to disconnect the battery again. I had the negative off the battery for the stereo install.
Its late so Im going to drive it a bit in the am... fingers crossed that it goes away on its own. Anyone else have this problem when disconnecting their battery or installing a stereo. (I only installed a replacement head unit so the load on the battery is similar to stock) no fancy amps or anything.

Happened to me a while ago in a similar scenario. I freaked out over nothing lol. First thing that comes to mind when those dash lights appear is $$$. The light turned off before I hit the end of my driveway.
UPDATE: Got in the car this morning and the warning was gone after warm up.... drove to work today with no issues. Looks like it was just from the battery disconnect... I found similar stories when searching the forum but wanted to make sure I was not missing anything.
By the way I LOVE my new stereo, way better than the stock PCM... The look is much more current in the dash now.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that there will be many errors in the computer from this day forward. Removing the pcm causes a failure in communications between the pcm and the instrument cluster that shows up in several categories in the computer.
I found this out when I went for service and the dealer told me there were many errors showing up.
They reset the errors but they are now back as I have seen on the durametric. Something to inform your dealer about so they don't try and chase down something that is not really an issue.
