Hello everyone after looking for GTRs for a while I decided to go after my dream car, which is a 911 turbo.

I'm in a wheelchair and been looking at 997 turbo but I'm not sure if my wheelchair would fit in the trunk, I'd be happy if just the frame fit then I can stick everything else in the back seat.

 

i dont see why not. the wheels can surely fit on the inside and the frame in the trunk.

ive seen a guy in a wheelchair retrofit his gallardo for hand control, and wheelchair accessibility. and the porsche definitely has more room. (the gallardo has no rear seats, and a smaller trunk).

 

Well when I'm alone I'll be putting my wheels in the back seat, frame in the passenger seat. But when I have my girlfriend she either goes in the trunk or the chair

 

hmmm. i think with the rear seats folded down (or simply removed) you should be able to store the wheels flat down. your frame should fit in the trunk (assuming it folds). Your passenger seat will be available for your GF to crap herself when you test out launch control.

 

I forgot about folding seats down, my chair does fold, I guess I just need to find someone in my area to t test it

By the way, I don't think I can launch using hands controls at least not the ones I use

 

hmmm. are you getting a pdk or tiptronic ?

 

That's what I'm not sure about yet, PDK is a little out of my reach, but it seems like it's a lot better.

Does the 997 have a sport mode? I see there's a manual mode, does that mean you have to use paddles?

For example, I have an Audi S5 there's regular D a sport mode and manual

 

looks like theres no sport mode on the tranny itself, but theres a sport mode on the dash.
manual mode means you have to use paddles, yup.

i assume youre going to get the car chipped. just get a tune that allows brake boosting.

 

What do you mean there's one on the dash?

If in regular drive mode, does it let the rpms go higher? In my car now drive keeps the rpms below 2-3k but sport mode is much higher

 

to be honest im not sure if the sport button on the dash affects the tiptronic, but in manual cars, when sport is activated, it gives the car more RWD bias, and makes the throttle input more sensitive, and it also activates overboost.

 

The paddle shifters on the 997 are kind of like buttons right?

Or are they behind the steering wheel?

 

I met a club member whose wheelchair fits in his Cayman. I'm not familiar with Cayman specs versus turbo though. Hope this helps.

 

the pdk are behind the wheels. the tiptronic are like buttons. but if thats an issue, im sure you retrofit the buttons to be at the back like lambos/ferraris

 

Can you upshift/downshift on the same button?

Because the S5 has the paddles behind and if I want to downshift I have to let go of the gas/brake

Does having the transmission in auto keep rpms low?

 

As to paddles/buttons...PDK can be had with either. May have to get first or second-year steering wheel to get the buttons, but it's a straight plug and play deal.
No, you can't up-down on the same button, either with buttons or paddles, but perhaps a left AND right throttle would work ? Don't know your particular situation, but maybe
some throttle creativity would solve ( or alleviate) the gas/brake thing...good-sized proprotional-rate buttons left and right under your thumbs, just inside wheel rim ? I'm thinking of all the functions on open wheel cars these days.

Tell me a bit more about what works for you now. Must be an answer around here somewhere, right?
