GT2 reliability or issues? (Should I buy one over a 997 Turbo)
I've got my eye on a 2008 GT2. I've always thought that after my 996 Turbo that a 997.1 Turbo would be my next step. But the GT2 is a Holy Grail car for me and I'm in a position where I could make it happen.
I wanted the 997.1 because (I believe) it was the last of the Metzger engines.
Any issues I should worry about? Any thoughts or comparison between 997 Turbo and the GT2?

i dont see why gt2 would be any more or less reliable vs a Turbo.

the gt2's suspension set up is more advanced than even the gt3..
longer gears, bigger turbos, better handling. better aero. better styling. lighter. better handling. better handling. better handling.

GT2 without a doubt. Just dumped my 2012 Turbo S and picked up an 08 GT2. No comparison between the two as a drivers car, and it isn't just about banging gears, the GT2 is much more aggressive feeling overall.
Lastly, ITS A GT2!

I would just check with your insurance company on a GT2. I heard some will write and some won't because they see it as a race car. Similar stories on the GT3.
I would go with the GT2!!

I have owned all three cars turbo, GT2 and GT2RS. They are all the same as far as up keep. Definitely go with the GT2 for the driving experience. They are all great cars. Have fun!
If you have the option, get the GT2. Same mezger engine, better suspension, RWD, faster, etc etc. And more collectible in the long run if that matters. I doubt it will depreciate at all unless you put insane mileage on it. Reliability - it'll run for hundreds of thousands of miles with proper maintenance (the same as turbo maintenance).
