Valentine woes

Well I have had my V1 since 2001 and it has been great. I upgraded it about 5 years ago for the POP2 mod and all has been swell. That is until the last year when it became and Audi detector...all these new driver nannies play havoc with K band detection.
So I check online and sure enough there is an upgrade for $199 and the friendly Valentine rep, says it will fix the false alarm issue. So I sent it in and it came back all fresh with new serial number ready to go......sure it no longer finds Audi........instead it can find any Tahoe or Suburban made this year along with Hyundi!!!!! So it's basically worthless as a radar detector.
I sent a note to the help desk asking what's going on.......no reply
I just sent another one and so thought I'd also ask the Pcar community to see if anyone else has this issue?
May have to just buy a passport and use the V1 on silent for the arrows....
Interested if anyone has this issue and found a solution.
Thanks

I haven't noticed that so much with my 9500ix, although it would be nice to see a list of the cars with the new lane-change detectors and other "nannies" as you put it..

Sometime the K band will go off with a very strong signal and just as quickly disappear, so I assume it's the things you mention..

The only thing I can for sure say will set off my K band alarm is the big yellow school buses..

Agreed about the Audi. Seems to set mine off. Just dealing with it.

Search and learn to program it. Turn off K band detection. Most cops nationwide use Ka Band and Laser anyways. K is usually the systems in other vehicles, so turn it off or turn the sensitivity WAY down so the signal has to be maxed out for it to show you an alert

I recommend against turning K band off. I too was very frustrated with V1 always giving false alerts and turned K off. A few weeks later got hit by a stationary cop hiding with K band on the whole time. If I left it on, I would've been able to avoid the ticket. I think V1's time is running out. Thinking about switching to Passport.

Agree, there are several cities near me ( most notably Irving,tx) that still use a lot of K band radar..

Which is why I said turn it off OR set it so that only the highest strength K band gets thru. A stationary cop using K would register high on the "strength" scale so the V1 would let that thru. An Audi a4 passing by would register less than half strength, so it wouldn't come thru. It's called filtering, and the V1 does it well if you just program the thing

Yep this is the way it has been going lately. Here is my list ... Frustrating.

New Audis
New Kia small sedan
Honda Odyssy minivans
18 wheel Trucks with the sensor thing (honestly i think the worst cause they come on fast and strong) the others tend to start weak, strengthen and then stay on)

Still sampling:
Hyundai
Jeep
New large cadillacs
Panamara/cayenne

Oh and trailblazers 3rd brake light will set off laser. AND i think the front of some of the new inifiniti suvs set off laser too but im still sampling that one.

DONT EVEN get me started on driving on some highways in Ohio. (Insert angry face here)

Programming the unit will solve this, no need to send it in. Had this show up on our Audi when I moved the V-1 from '06 A8L to '12 A8L and it set itself off the entire ride back. Called Valentine, they walked me through the programming to take out one of the features that is not very likely to impact effectiveness of detection, but does reduce/eliminate most of the 'lane monitor' alerts from so many cars, Audi included.

On my 911 though, I run K40 systems, which still pick up a few of these annoyances, but otherwise work just fine.

Here is the pdf from V1 showing you how to program the device yourself.

http://www.valentine1.com/v1info/pdf...-REVforPDF.pdf

Here is a youtube video of someone programming the device. There are tons of threads online and videos showing you how to program it and/or adjust individual sensitivites

I have a Escort 9500ci installed system.

I also detect cars with laser cruise control and other nannies. Falsing is not too bad and I never realized what it was until I went on a road trip with some friends.

I just traveled accross country .I am fed up with the V1.I got so many false warnings ,it was pissing me off.I actually even got a ticket! I had become void to its continuous false warnings.By the end of the ride I swore I was going to replace mine with an Escort.I think I ‘ll do that now!
