Tire wear

Was wondering what kind of mileage you're getting from rear Pirelli PZeros
My tires are pretty shot at 6800 miles. Was thinking of switching over to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport anyway, just curious what kind of mileage others were getting.

I would not waste my money on Pirelli tires. Michelins are far superior, but I have been very happy with Hankook evo v12 which I believe are far better than Pirelli, and at an attractive price point.

I have the Michelins on my car currently and I am pretty happy. Just over 4K and they look and perform great. Do your Hankook's need to be heated up to perform well? I read somewhere that until they are up to "operating" temperature they don't have much grip.

What is your experience?

Generally speaking, all new tires can be a little "squirrely" for the first hundred miles or so, but I have to say that I have had 2 sets of Hankooks and have been very pleased with lower road noise, better handling, and smoother ride than Pirelli.

Yea! I was not to happy with the P zeroes as they seemed to make a lot of road noise. But they were on the car when I bought I was just curious about the milage you typically get from the rear tires?

So far, 4K on the set. I will keep you posted but most likely it will sit most of the winter up here.

It's really hard to compare mileage on tires - too many variables. Driving style, alignment, track use, etc. I would, however, expect to get at least 10k on a set.

The Pilot super sports are not much more money than the V12s and are worth it, IMO. They have a stiffer side wall and a bit more feel. In my experiences, the MPSS also last a bit longer and have a bit better grip in both wet and dry.

With both my 02 Boxster (currently with Pirelli tires) and with my 03 Turbo (currently with Bridgestone tires) I can manage 20K mile on the rear tires, double that for the fronts.

I can tell you I've run a number of sets of Pirelli tires and Michelin tires on my Boxster and the only real difference I've noticed is the Pirelli tires get noisier when old and worn compared to the Michelin tires.

I went back to Pirelli a set or two ago because Michelin tires were not available.

For the Turbo it came with Continental tires. These were a good tire but when it came to replace all 4 the dealer didn't have any Conti's but did have a set of Bridgestones. These have proved to be a good tire too. I have not run Pirelli or Michelin on the Turbo.

Unless you tell me you zoom around corners on two wheels with your car I'm going to say the cause the short tire life is not the Pirelli tires but the car's alignment.

I can't stress how important a proper alignment is for good tire life. In one case my Turbo left the alignment rack with what proved to be a less than ideal alignment and 8K miles later the rear tires were shot, worn down to the belts at the inner edges. With a proper alignment rear tire life once again jumped back up to 20K miles and I have managed to get 23K miles at least once.

Replace the rear tires. Get the car treated to a proper alignment and experience easily double the miles on a set of tires.

Great advice on the alignment. My car lunched a set of rear tires in 5k miles, I mean down to the cords (and nearly through them in places). I had just bought the car and thought that since the car had had springs recently installed that an aligment had been done. I was wrong.

It wasn't terribly out of spec, but the rear tire wear along the inner inch of the rear tires was the worst I've ever seen in such a short amount of mileage.

Tire Wear

Yes I can sometimes be aggressive in the canyon twists which is a the benefit of living in So Cal. I could probably get another thousand miles out of the
P zeroes, but not liking how they feel, So I went ahead an ordered the
Michelin Pilot super sports today, can't wait to see how they feel!
As far as my alignment goes, its looking pretty good, even wear across the tire.
Would like to thank everybody for your advise
