91 or 94 octane
91 or 94 octane
Hey guys. My 911 TT is stock. The manual says 93 octane is the preferred. In my area Chevron offers a 91 with up to 10 % ethanol and a 94 with no Ethanol. Shell offers a 91 without ethanol. What would you guys use? 2 point of octane lower or 1 more above? Price is the roughly the same.
94 with no ethanol and at the same price as 91 with ethanol? Where do you drive? In heaven?
The 94 while nominally a point of octane higher than called for by Porsche is the preferred choice. The lack of ethanol means you'll get a bit better gas mileage so this will mean you require less 94 fuel to move the car the same distance at 91 fuel. This helps to bring the 94 gasoline into price parity with the 91 gasoline.
The higher octane means too the engine controller will be able to advance the ignition timing to maximize combustion start for deriving even more mechanical energy from the burning of the fuel than it would with 91 octane. This improves the car's tractability and also helps increase gas mileage.
I'd say you are in a win, win, and win scenario. You lucky <static>.

The higher the octane the better the performance! I run 95 in my car and it has an EVOMS OBDII tune only. It put down 650whp and 633wtq. I believe fuel makes a huge difference.

Jako, we've tuned many BMW N54s in BC and have had a ton of experience actually tuning with Chevron's 94. I can tell you that Chevron's 94 really turned out to be poor quality. Petro Canada 94 though (formerly Sunoco) is far better if you have access to it and is the only 94 octane that we'd recommend over Shell's 91 that has actual dyno proven higher octane. Husky 94 is a little better but they seem to only have it available in Alberta and Manitoba as far as I recall.
In your case I'd highly recommend sticking with Shell's 91 instead of the Chevron 94. Let me know if any questions dzenno@protuningfreaks.com

Whether there is Shell or Chevon in the tank I never notice any difference.
On a recent nearly 5K mile road trip I ran Shell and Chevron almost exclusively and never noticed any differences. Word I have is Porsche uses Chevron for its USA emissions testing/certification.
