Exclamation CEL & Rough Idle

Just had the 40k mile service done a few weeks ago. Yesterday afternoon I started the car and made it 500 feet out of the parking garage when the CEL came on and the idle got really, really rough -- to the point the car was shaking. Luckily I was about 3/4 mile away from my indie at the time so I limped it over there. CEL went off after about 60 seconds and the idle calmed down about 50%, but it was still rough. Not a lot of symptoms when driving besides what I'd describe as few mild backfires (popping from the exhaust).

PIWIS is showing misfiles on two cylinders, intake problem, and most concerning... camshaft misalignment. My tech checked the boost connections but couldn't find anything unusual. Bumper is coming off this morning. I'm hoping that its a plug/pack issue since that's where all the action was for the 40k service.

Cross your fingers for me!

Do you have a print out of the actual codes that are being thrown?

Didn't think to get the actual codes. I'll try to get them once my tech calls me this morning with an update.

How is your battery... often when its weak all sort if issues arise at start up...
charge the battery go from there... or swap it if you have a friend for a day or so....
I've seen this before...

My tech swapped the solenoids and the problem moved to the other bank. New solenoids are being overnighted from Ontario so hopefully we could have this resolved tomorrow.

That is good news! Are you referring to the Variocam actuators? The ones that sit in the middle of the spark plugs?

I had a similar issue a few years ago and replaced them and it fixed it....Have it again?? May try that before I bite the bullet on the big $$

Good luck!

That is my understanding. I would assume that the problem wouldn't travel with the actuator if it was the cam sleeve issue.

Well....I ran Seafoam in oil for a bit to clean internals...Put it up on lift and tore it apart last night. Ordered the variocam actuator, and will swap sides, and hope it moves :-) then will change oil too.

I will have to hope the cel comes back, because sometimes I drive with no cel....then get back in, and comes on in the first mile or so. I will have to reconnect the IC's to crank it....then pull them back off....

Fingers crossed...
