This is a silly question I was wondering what summer street tire can you daily drive on (manageable in the rain) that can actually sustain 700-800whp with decent traction? R888s?

 

R888 hands down

 

That's what I have with that power and it works pretty well. Not sure on the tire life though.

MPSS if you really would drive in rain. R888s if you just would try to get home in rain.

I'm very surprised no-ones mentioned MPS Cup 2.

Same price as R888 and far better in the rain. MPSS average compared to the Cup2. Time moves on.

Hah. And yea I actually did forget about the cup 2. I tried the original cup a long time ago and wasn't a fan of it so never bothered w/ the cup 2.

Though with the NT-01 coming in our sizes, I will probably start using them. It is a good time to want high performance tires...

 

not sure what size your looking for but 315/30-18 in r888 no longer made. r888 are loud and suck in the weather. theres a new nitto nt-05 and nt-05r that looks like a nice replacement for the r888

R888 are way to slippery when raining, If you want to race in track then Michelin Pilot CUP2 and if you drive 99% time city-highway then Michelin Supersport.
I drive my 700hp 911tt also every day and tried all those 3 tires. Supersport one big advance is they wear very slowly. CUP2 work in rain as good as every other usual tire, but they wear quite fast, bot not as fast as R888
Porsche itself recomend Michelin tires.

 

I have 633tq/650hp (wheel) and I am currently running MPSS tires. I have a PDK transmission and feel the R888 tires may prove to put more strain on the PDK as they should provide more grip and be able to apply more power to the pavement. I have only been able to achieve a 0-60 of 2.9s 0-100 of 6.3s on the MPSS (spinning in gears 1-2-3). Am I incorrect in believing that the PDK may not be able to handle the added stress put on it with the use of R888 tires?

 

longboarder is doing just fine with his. personally, I think you're fine. R888's are loud -- but those are the tires i'm going to when mine wear out.... not sure what I'm dyno'ing at... but it's based off the cobb stage 2 tune (I have exhaust w/o cats) and for 95 octane. longboarder is running a ton more power than me, and he's doing just fine.
