Random / intermittent slipping under boost
Random / intermittent slipping under boost
Have a strange issue; on hard acceleration when changing from first to second or second to third, it seems like the clutch is slipping. This doesn't happen every time or even every day. It had been doing it intermittently for 1-2 months. Many days, I can't get it to slip. It seems to happen more frequently when the engine is warm. I have had the car now for 4 or 5 months and it has 14,000 miles. I can't get it to slip in a high gear on steep inclines, so I wonder if the clutch is actually the culprit. I had the dealer take it out for a test drive and all came back okay. They could get it to slip. Is there something else that can be causing this free rev to red line at max boost? It has aftermarket exhaust and, but no tune. It is a 2009 Turbo.
With the extra power an exhaust gives it might be too much for the stock pressure plate. Short answer you may not have a bad clutch yet but it may be going. Does it occur more so in cold weather or when in sport mode?
If you are in sport mode in a low gear like 5th or 6th and low rpm and floor it is that when it slips or is it in gears 1-2?

Synchros? Really? Do you know what they do? Come on! Just disregard that comment.
Its most likely the clutch. You may have some warpage on the plate due to heat. And when its at the right spot, it slips. Since the motor and gears 1 2 or 3 are spinning fast enough, you feel it. On the higher gears you may not feel it or it may not be happening due to the input shaft speed of the trans. Either way, Just replace the clutch and flywheel.
