30,000 mile service spark plugs?
30,000 mile service spark plugs?
Hey guys, my 2010 997.2 Turbo is up for it's 30,000 mile service. I was told that I needed to get the spark plugs changed out as part of routine maintenance. Was quoted a price of around $1,500 for the whole job.
My question is...does that price sound right? AND...do any of you go to an aftermarket shop (not a porsche dealership) to get your routine maintenance done and if so would you recommend others doing the same?
I realize the work might not be certified and that warranties etc won't apply to work done at non-porsche places...but that price seemed like a lot of work. Realizing this is a high end car and maintenance costs more than others...just looking for thoughts/advice on what to do.
Thanks guys!

As for the price...That sounds about right. The other questions are subjective. I am sure many use trusted independent shops, and some (including me) do much of the work on their own cars. So several options there.
Probably not a bad idea to change the plugs at 30 K for optimal performance. If tuned or driven hard they tend to last for a shorter time, and gaps should be reduced on tuned cars in most cases....If tuned...Check with the tuner on recommended gap.

I would definitely change them as part of routine maintenance at 30k. You can use an indy shop that will be less. A local Porsche indy charged $800 for me
Undercover Tuning is down there and has experience with Porsche. Hit them up

Routine maintenance is just that "routine". If any of the plugs were misfiring you would throw a code. My 15 year old jeep will throw a CEL if there was a misfire. That happened and I went and changed the plugs and all better.
Mine were changed at 11k when the tune was done. At almost 31k now, still running fine and will revisit it around 40k

wow that's impressive.

For scheduled maintenance I go to the Porsche dealer, why? (1) warrantied work (ii) official Porsche service records (key for resale), and (iii) they ensure any factory recalls or updates are addressed. I'm not close to 30K yet but $1.5K doesn't sound unreasonable. For other work (e.g., oil changes etc) a good indie would suffice.
