Coolant lines - Pinned, Welded and Recall by Porsche?

I was looking to get a 07-09 porsche 911 turbo and just read about the coolant leaking issues some people are having. Is that something that was ever recalled by porsche or covered in any way? When did they correct this problem, 09, 10?

To my understanding, the engine needs to be dropped and the elbows replaced and the fittings welded, pinned, or permanantly sealed. Is there a good time to do this with the regular service intervals...like spark plug changes? Is there a mileage or age that this happens more to? Is there an estimate of how much we are looking at?

Is there any way to tell if a car has had this repair done? I have looked at a number of car fax reports and see "Manufacturer Voluntary Service Action issued
#W709 VOLUNTARY SERVICE ACTION - CONNECTION
FITTING" repair on many of them. Is that the issue being addressed?

Any input would greatly appreciated. I've searched and haven't had any luck.

Certainly no recall here in the UK and it remains a weak spot. You can have them pinned or welded and there are aftermarket components available which are an improvement on OEM.

I read the article from autoblog referencing the nhtsa findings and it said it only affected 2007 and early 2008 models in large numbers. Something like 6x more likely on those models UNTIL they changed their manufacturing procedures. Does anyone know what they mean by early model year? New models come out in January right? Here is the article":

Also does anyone know what "#W709 VOLUNTARY SERVICE ACTION - CONNECTION
FITTING" repair " is that shows up on many of the carfax histories? Thanks guys...

Coolant lines - Pinned, Welded and Recall by Porsche?

I'd reach out to Sharkwerks as they sell an item that normally is in conjunction with pinning/welding the coolant lines. Naturally this will not account for every car that has been modified however I can't Imagine anyone replacing the plastic elbows and not pinning their system. Mine is a late 2008 and I pinned mine. They were not leaking from them, however the car did have a coolant leak.

That tsb refers to exhaust o2 sensors and the turbo actuator lubrication recall.

Porsche squeaked out of having to issue a recall. Shame, as a real danger exists. I ponied up and had the motor pulled, sharkwerks parts installed and everything else pinned.

How much did you pony up and where did you get it done at?

Chris, do you know what the issue was with the o2 sensors?

Forget for the life of me what it cost, but it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be with a motor drop etc. Had it done at GSR Autosport, talk to Mike.

They rerouted secondary sensor wires slightly further from the exhaust, only on early 07 cars.
Here's the coolant pipes in question.

Coolant lines - Pinned, Welded and Recall by Porsche?

Mine was 27 hrs in labour including engine drop and replace. Did a few other bits and pieces while it was out but majority was pinning work.

That's pretty good. I know Sharkwerks says they charge 3k I've seen other charges 5k. Did you also replace the three plastic elbows under the oil cooler?

It took me 21 hours to complete my evolution. I also did a few other bits and pieces.

I paid for 15 hours labour (not sure how long it actually took), and he also changed out my injectors, fpr, and changed the Sharky connectors x 3. I know he plans on increasing his rate for this job for future customers but I won't complain about what I paid.

Yes, also replaced the elbows with the sharkwerks version. I had a ton of coolant lines replaced, basically anything not accessible and that looked a little worn/bulgy, along with the electric water pump for the turbo coolant lines. I don't want to be in there again any time soon!
