Losing clutch fluid somewhere?
Losing clutch fluid somewhere?
So about 6 weeks ago, my clutch pedal went to the floor one morning, and assuming it was slave and/or accumulator (and the car was under CPO warranty), I had it towed to the nearest dealer.
They called and said the problem was simply that the front reservoir was essentially empty. They bled the system, refilled and checked for leaks but said they couldn't find anything so i picked up the car and clutch seemed to work fine. (Disclaimer: i didn't even think to check the level of fluid in the front because i had only put about 1000 miles on the car since purchasing as a CPO car).
So now being overly paranoid, i started checking the reservoir every time i drove the car, and noticed that i was still losing fluid somewhere. The pentosin would drop from Max to Min level after only about 100-150 miles of driving (albeit with lots of stop and go clutch usage), but knowing this was not "normal", I took the car back in. This time the dealer said it was a bad accumulator and replaced it under warranty.
So now, after putting another 100-150 miles on the new accumulator, the dang thing is till losing fluid! No evidence of fluid anywhere on garage floor. Didn't suspect slave since it sounds like that usually results in the reservoir overflowing, not losing fluid.
Any words of wisdom before i take it back to the dealer for a third time...
Thanks!

The clutch res will back up into the power steering pump if the slave fails. Check for leakage at the power steering cap. You definitely don want petosin leaking anywhere near the exhaust, big time fire risk.
Thanks, Chris, I will look more closely at the Power Steering res tonight. I suppose that is why they put that little catch-cup under the Power Steering cap to catch any wayward fluid leakage. It was as if they knew this system was going to be prone to failure...
Can almost guarantee you its the slave or accumulator. I had this happen and missing fluid was no where to be found. Seeing as you have replaced one it will be the other. I have been in this boat, happened on two occasions.
If your running the non improved parts the dealer should have replaced both if you ask me as its when not if this happens.
