Thumbs up proTUNING Freaks - OEM 997.2 Turbo In-Tank fuel pumps - Flow Test Results

As we've mentioned a while ago we've been working on 997.2 fuel system research and we thought we'd share some data out with the community on our findings so others don't have to cover the same ground.

We had the pumps sent out to a 3rd party fuel systems manufacturer. Testing was done up to 60-65psi fuel pressure. The pressure release valves in the pumps started to release just above that.

Pumps flowed together in assembly, here are the flow results:

Code:
=====

Volts                     Flow (lph)                    Amps
8v                          113                         14.4
9v                          161                         15.5
10v                         201                         16.8
12v                         293                         19.6
14v                         374                         23.0
=====
OEM pumps flow a nice 374lph at 14v and 23A at 60psi.

Here's a short quiz: How much power can a 374LPH pump assembly support?

We've gathered more data but would like to keep the rest close to our chest for now.

Regards,
Dzenno@PTF

Wow that is actually surprising they flow that much. Thanks for sharing and it's pretty awesome you are doing some R&D.
When are you going to give us the answer to the quiz?

BBI gave me an approx number so I won't spoil. But congrats for figuring it out.

Keep in mind this is just the low pressure side of the system.

I have no idea what 374 kph will flow. But it was conveyed to me the conventional wisdom of mid 600's was not correct.

Seeing as how conventional wisdom pegs the 255 at around 500 hp on gasoline, 375 should be good for 700-750 hp on the low pressure side.

The low pressure side has never been the hurdle on the .2's......

When working on building a fuel system you have to cover all the bases. In a direct injection setup you always start by analyzing the low pressure side. I don't recall anyone sharing actual data on them and we certainly don't take anyone's word for it when turning up power.

You'd be surprised how many times you'll come across so called "conventional" wisdom on a given platform only to realize it was regurgitated hearsay and far from actual when you do some digging and data gathering yourself.

This data puts a number on flow volume at a given pressure and we know how far the LPFP side would safely support. Depending on any given car's power goals that may or may not be sufficient.

For instance, you certainly won't be able to run E85 on the OEM LPFP system and max out even the OEM turbos with boltons and a custom tune let alone bolting up a bigger pair of twins...and we all know how 'magical' E85 is when it comes to gains over gasoline

Just wondering, has anyone here flow tested the 997.1 and 996 fuel pump assemblies?

We didn't for the 996 single but did on the 997.1 to take into consideration while designing a new system.
