Slight Whirling Noise around 2800 RPM + What's this hose?

Recently, I noticed that there's a slight whirling noise around 2600-2800 RPM that would disappear at > 3000 RPM.

I had the car boost tested a couple of weeks ago and I was told that the serpentine belt was on its way out.

So during idle, I popped the engine bay open to try and figure out where the noise its coming from .. but I noticed that a hose is sweating ... I have no idea what this hose does ... perhaps one of you guys in your eternal wisdom call help a brother out. \

Oh, also, I noticed that the temp gauge would hover slightly between 90 and the line above that. I'm not sure if that would be normal considering the temp here is around 115F ambient.

Water pump was replaced last year Btw.

Would appreciate any insight ... Gracias.

Hose is normal as already stated. The belt will whir, particularly if it is aged, up to around 3k rpm. Also, don't be surprised if your new belt is noisy in the same rpm range.

Thanks Gents!

I went to an indy today, I was told that its more of the diff and no sound is coming from the engine bay.

I was told its kinda normal as it ages. I'll change the tranny fluid and hope that it tones it down a bit.

If it's the diff, I'd look to that and not only to the transmission, no?
