What's the deal on ported headers ...
I've done enough research that headers are not really needed on our cars unless your pushing in excess of 575 awhp...and even then your not really gaining much power...I've read threads were cars were on stock headers on 700awhp with not much restriction...what's the deal on ported headers and can they be used safely without cracking ..how did they sound...did it make the car sound deeper with a better sound...please any info would be great...
You can do it yourself if you don't mind metal shavings all over you LOL. You're just cleaning up the heavy welts on the inside which on the 997 or not as bad as the 996. It won't become week unless you go all the way through. Just smooth a couple millimeters off for a little better flow. Sound won't really change and you may not even notice it but it's nice to know they are cleaned up. Hope that helps. Some shops charge two or three hours to do it. It will definitely chew up bits
In my opinion.... I highly advice again "porting" the stock header.
The stock header is a dual wall design (a nice design I might add) that relies on the weld that you are "porting" away to hold the 2 materials together.
Ive seen failures on 996tt's as well as Audi S4's with similar design.

It's been done with great success over the years if done properly. But when you put all these opinions together what it really comes down to is it may not be worth risking over doing it. Especially because the 997 are actually welded a little tidier to begin with. Porsche obviously paid attention to it.

So what headers would complement my undercover performance xpipe exaust for a wicked exaust sound.. Yes one day I'll be at 850 awhp so I might as well get a exotic sounding header sooner or later..
You can put on an equal length header but on this car it's not going to do a whole lot. They are so short and stubby as is. That's why most people say you don't "need" them. Whether it's ported properly or an aftermarket unit they are worth about 10 HP. Of course unless you start getting into huge horsepower. Undercover can fabricate something pretty nice for you I'm sure. Kline makes a nice set of equal length headers by hand which are pretty nice.
