I have 2007 911 Turbo techart car. Car has the techart lowering springs on it and rides on 20s. Car has 40,000km.

Car rides extremely stiff both in normal and even worst in sport mode.

My brother has a 2011 997.2 Turbo on 20s with eibach lowering springs and his car rides like a Buick compared to mine.

I realize there's a vast difference between the suspension of the 997.1 and the 997.2. However does anyone have any experience on 997.1s with techart springs vs another brand ? Would it be even worth trying an eibach spring or something else? Or do all the lowering springs for a 997.1 result in a harsh ride?

 

What kind of tires do you have vs. your brothers car? My car still has the stock Bridgestones, which I have always found to be harsh and noisy due to the stiff sidewalls. I'm swapping them out for Michelin Pilot Super Sports, which should soften things up a little bit.

The 20's are definitely adding to the discomfort I would imagine, but I have 19's so I can't speak to that. I also have H&R's, which to me ride great, but I haven't ever ridden in a car with the Techarts.

I have techarts also, with 20" and PSS. On normal, its pretty smooth, sport mode, definitely stiff. Maybe have it checked out as Alankey suggested.

 

There's def nothing wrong with the car, has been looked at recently. I guess I am just surprised over how much the ride differs between my car and my brothers 997.2 which is lowered and has 20s as well and was wondering if that can be attributed to the Techart springs being stiffer than other lowering springs.

 

Techart springs are made by Eibach.
Techart and Eibach use the same springs for both /1 and /2.

The 'vast difference' is in the shocks and software.
Could be your shocks are shot but otherwise I would be looking in adding a DSC module.

Also possible your 20" wheels are too heavy. Years ago I had 20" 3piece wheels installed almost from new and the car was a pain to drive. In fact I sold it because it was 'unpleasant'. At the time I did not realize it was because of the wheels. I just thought I got too old to drive such a car. The buyer wanted the original wheels so I reinstalled those and did a short test ride and it was a totally different car.
20" wheels are perfectly fine for a 997 but you must make sure they are as light (or lighter) than the stock 19's. I have a 20" set ready to go on my third 997 turbo and this time the set with tires are much lighter than the 19" stock wheels.

 

I have tech arts and 20" Asanti's and have no complaints whatsoever I agree with some of the other comments it is your vehicle is not the springs

 

Do you know if anything else is modified in the suspension of your car? Drop links, etc.? What tire are you using and I assume they have "normal" pressure, not over inflated? The sway bars are stock and are not binding (stuck)?

Besides above, as others mentioned I would also consider switching back to stock wheel if only to eliminate the 20 inch wheel as a possible cause.

I do not know how Techart compares to Eibach (no one knows for sure; even if Eibach makes Techart springs, the rates are not necessarily the same), but per forum's previous users' discussion, Techart's **seems** to be among the stiffer/stiffest lowering springs on market. That said, it shouldn't be *that* stiff and users actually love it because of the sporty firmness. ie The firmness is desirable and not excessive.

BTW, 997.2's suspension is overall better than 997.1, but as far as stiffness, the difference IMHO is not vast. If anything, 997.2 is the firmer car, so you could eliminate that as the reason.

 

I ended up buying the TPC racing DSC computer and the car ride has changed significantly.

Seems there was nothing really wrong in terms of how stiff it rode other than the fact that it's lowered on 20" rims.

Nevertheless the DSC module made a world of difference in the comfort level of day to day driving and apparently it shows its true colours on an actual track. Eveything I have read about that module from actual owners of it has been positive. Including myself.

 

Nice, thanks for the feedback. Rarely do threads get updated with end results. The TPC DSC module is on my list of things to get.

 

Got my car back earlier this week with my H&R springs installed.

I also have the TPC module. I'm still running the stock 19's while I wait for my adv1's, but the ride difference is barely noticeable.

 

Interested in your opinion about the H&R's....

So far I like them a lot. Stance is perfect. Pic below. Please excuse the dirty car which just returned from the shop.

car feels better planted in the turns and rock solid on the straights.

I am running a TPC module, and the ride is very-very close to stock on the comfort setting. Second mode is also fine. 3rd setting for track is very aggressive but was so with the stock springs.

I will loop back after my 20"s arrive
