997 turbo zf transmisson
997 turbo zf transmisson
Hi guys ,,,
I have 997 turbo 2007 and im thinking that i have to change the transmisson fluid , as i know the transmisson is from ZF company , they recommend that sports transmisson should service the transmisson 80 - 120 km or 8 years ,
Any advice ?
Should i have to change the transmisson fluid ?
Thanks,,,

Not too sure it's a zf. It's a merc tranny (722.6 I believe). Just changed mine about an hour ago. Not very hard at all. Did it at 43k and it wasn't that bad. Brownish in color but the pan was clean.
Do you feel any deference in shifting after changing ?
No harm in my opinion to change the fluid, your car is nearly 9 years old now, so you are doing what Porsche recommends.
However In my opinion it is not a good idea to do tranny fluids frequently, as the oil gets thicker with time if I am not mistaken which makes it smoother etc. (I may be wrong lol)
Goodluck

Feels the same but I had no problems before. Only took it for a quick ride so I'M not sure what it will do under heavy boost yet.
It's and absolute great idea to change the transmission fluid, it is inexpensive insurance. Fluid that is dirty looking is full of contaminate particles( clutch pack bearing, and much more) . The filter in an automatic transmission is not really a fine particulate filter like an oil filter, and it doesn't really filter these things out. These contaminates dont particularly lubricate well, and even worse can retain heat, both bad for transmission life.
Any fluid in any vehicle doesn't get better with time or mileage, and with fluid being the least expensive of the parts on this vehicle, it is cheap insurance. While you're down there you may want to change the differential oil, which is attached to the tip, but different fluid.
I like to drain the auto trans fluid every other oil change, which is usually only 1/3 of the capacity, and in most transmissions will be between 3 and 4 quarts. Measuring what comes out in a clear gallon jug will allow you to put the same amount back in, and if there are no leaks should be very close to what is needed.
Any 134 trans fluid with a 722.6 spec will suffice, but the fluid debate is for another page.

So you advice to change the differential oil and the transmission fluid with high mileage ?

Took mine out for a long ride yesterday and today. trans does seem smoother and shifts in sport mode seem crisper. May be my imagination but I doubt it. I would change it before it gets too dirty. Most problems happen if you change it after too long a time. That's when you have a chance of loosening up debris and getting it in the valve body. Like the old timers say, either change it regularly or don't change it at all. And diff oil change can't hurt either
Cheers

Most dealers do have a machine to do a flush and that is probably better than just a filter and fluid change. Just be sure they know what they are doing because you can also screw up a tranny by using the wrong chemicals to flush it.
This is why i posted this thread , because i want to know whats the transmission fluid for the 997 turbo
