Can't stop seatbelt chime despite belt being buckled!
Hi guys,
Picked up my car after an oil change and battery swap. Drove fine the first few times but since yesterday, the car doesn't recognize that my belt is buckled and will chime for a few minutes of driving until it finally stops. Obviously very annoying and likely do to some cheap plastic sensor inside the buckle breaking or failing. Was wondering if this is an easy DIY fix to buy a driver's side buckle and replace it myself? I have the extended fidelity warranty but curiously, they don't cover "restraining systems". I'm going to call my SA at the dealership and verify but if they don't, I don't want to spend $300 replacing it if I can do it myself. I've read on here that you can turn it off all together if you have durametric (I don't) but some say the dealer won't do it for you because of liability. Any info appreciated.
Thanks!

I don't know your root cause, but I turned that crap off with Durametric. Where are you located? Somebody nearby may be willing and able to scan codes and/or change the settings for you.
After you have it, you can do your own oil changes and save $200+ each time.
Before you do that though, I would do a hard reset on your system.
-disconnect your battery +/- terminal
-touch or connect both leads +/- wires together for 3-4 mins.
-reconnect leads to battery and try again.
If that fails, you most likely have a bad sensor.
One more thing, what battery model was installed?
Thanks for the replies. I believe it was an interstate battery that was installed. Same battery they sold me at the dealership last time. I'll give that hard reset a try but then won't that mess up the auto roll up function for the window and other things like needing a stereo code for the PCM? Yeah I think just getting rid of the chime would be the best thing, although the buckle is only a $100 if I knew how to replace it. I'm located in orange county.
So as an update to anyone who has this problem, I was all set to go to an indy shop to get the buckle replaced for $270 (dealer wanted $600). On my way over to the shop, that day, the chiming stopped and the belt buckle has now worked properly with no chime for the last 3-4 weeks. I know elite1 recommended the hard reset with my battery (since it has been replaced just prior to this problem occurring) but I was afraid to do it and have codes or other issues to deal with. But in the end it looks like it was some kind of electric gremlin likely related to the battery change. So if any 6speeders end up with the nonstop seat belt chime after a battery swap, it may be related and you either need to reset the system, or drive it for many cycles and it'll go away. That or I have a bad sensor that will likely act up again soon
. But seriously, no it would do it without or without anything being in the passenger seat. What's stranger still is that if it was electrical or battery related, you would figure it would be from the first time I drove the car after the battery swap. But it happened the second time I turned it on. Oh well, whatever it is hopefully it's fixed now.
