997.2 - 60-130 6.04 sec pump 91 gas in the rain

Gentlemen: Yes I have a death wish. No other cars around. Middle of nowhere...early morning. Thanks for not judging me.

Has been raining a lot lately and I've been needing to test my car out on a different meth setting (more flow top end). Opened the garage this morning and was met with light sprinkles. Carried on to my spot and the situation didn't get any better. The road wasn't all that wet as it had just started to rain. I've raced in the rain a few times. I'm no expert...but the car tracked fairly straight even on a 4 wheel spin. I remembered the car didn't spin in the higher gears so figured I could do a couple 3rd gear pulls.

My car is a 997.2 GIAC/Champion tune, BBI exhaust with 200 cel, Champion intercoolers, IPD Y and plenum, BMC filter and meth. Running pump 91 gas. 19" GMG LMS forged monoblock centerlocks with 245/325 R888 tires.

I haven't ran the car since my last airstrip event in November where it did a 6.2X 60-130 slight uphill +0.4% with a minor headwind and 78 deg F at 600 feet elevation. I have wanted to test in cooler conditions but the rain every weekend has kept me from it. Well the rain didn't stop me today.

So for safety purposes I left PSM on and stayed away from 2nd year. I did a couple practice pulls short shifting and car tracked well even with traction control lighting up. Decided it was safe enough for a full 130 pull and got a 6.0. Definitely has high 5 in her assuming I don't run out of fuel.

Cheers.

That is moving the mail, with all the convenience of everyday pump and meth to boot...sweet!

What do you think your LW wheels and race seats help you, 0.2?

I am looking to cut some weight like I did in my 996t, as it helps in every performance metric of the vehicle.

As usual, well rounded package my friend!

Thx brother. I was amazed at how straight the car tracked and the insane grip in the rain. Seriously could any other car do this?

Not sure how much quicker the car is with the seats and wheels. The seats probably saved 40 pounds in total. The wheels are forged monoblock and are very light so the unsprung weight savings is significant. That and the car is a Turbo S so it already has the carbon ceramic brakes which also save on unsprung weight compared to the steel counterparts. So yeah if I were to guess probably 0.2 sec on a 60-130 run. Should make a huge difference on the track.

Congrats Adam amazing time but be carefull my friend, one day I did a very long skid and 360°s from about 120mph on a rainy road, luckily no injury but still scares me!

Thx for the nice words and glad you were ok.

In this situation, the breaking was more hairy than the acceleration. ABS was triggered a couple times as I didn't have much space to slow. I really think the R888 is an absolutely amazing tire in both dry conditions and rain. The R888 likely allowed for the best accel and decel traction of any tire in these conditions.

That's moving for sure!

quick question : do you run race fuel with water meth or is water meth only used with 91 octane for you?

After 5 or 6 pulls I figured my luck may run out at some point. So I stopped. PSM on the new gen cars (997.2 and 991) is literally something else. I've done a lot crazy things in these cars and so over the years I have built up tremendous amount of confidence (maybe too much). In a 997.1 maybe I'd be writing this from the hospital dunno.

At the track I just use pump 91 and meth. I have a 3 gallon fuel cell so meth can last a whole day at the track. At the airstrip I use race gas. But I don't go much faster. My car even at 91 octane is basically at the limit of the fuel system. So by putting race gas all it does is reduce the amount of ethanol in the fuel (pump 91 has about 10% ethanol, which as you know requires 1.3x the fuel as conventional gasoline) so with race gas which is ethanol free, I have a little more fuel and a slight power bump. Timing and boost are already maxed out on pump 91 and meth on my car.
