Opinions on a softronic tune
What are people's thoughts on a softronic tune compared to other canned tunes out there. My 997.1tt has a fabspeed maxflo exhaust, fabspeed headers, and a softronic tune. What should this car trap in the quarter mile?
I can speak to my experience with Softronic, but what you are going to find, is everyone on the forum (with few exceptions) will promote whatever tune they have. Most only have one tune, so cannot compare (including me). So it will be a challenge to get good factual comparisons if that is what you are looking for.
Per your question "What are people's thoughts on a softronic tune" .....I have had it on my car for quite a few years now and it has been great. It runs trouble free, and is very fast. I do not have 1/4 mile traps, but have a best 1/2 mile rolling trap at No Fly Zone of 163.04....I have the slip posted here as well (but some A@@hole put 2 negative reps because they did not believe it?...) Scott has been tuning loner than most (the owner of Softronic) and you can call him and get lots of information. He has always been very helpful and responsive even years after the tune.
Car always runs great...and most importantly safely (he does not tune it to the point you have reliability issues). I have been very pleased with it, but that is my only tune experience....
Now you will see a bunch of posts with everyone promoting their tunes. I am sure there are some other good ones...Contact Scott @ Softronic if you have questions...he is very nice and knowledgable.
Good luck,
DC

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It sounds like Softronic is a safe and effective tune. My 996 has a Cobb in it and the OTS tune was quite impressive. 88Rock you make a good point about the basis of comparison for a true apples to apples response. I image most Porsche tuners are extremely competent people and their customers would be happy with the their results.
88rock a 163.04 is an amazing half mile time. Based on your 1/2 mile speed you should trap in the 130s in the 1/4. I've been doing some additional reading and the collective opinion seems to be that a stock 997.1 should trap low 120s and a tuned 997.1 with supporting mods should trap high 120s. Clearly octane and DA are going to have an effect here but given the aforementioned collective opinion regarding trap speed I don't see why your 1/2 mile speed is so unbelievable. Are your average 1/2 mile speeds in the 160s or did everything come together just right on that 163 run?
How much boost do you guys see on your dash gauge?

Forgot to mention I have had my softronic tune since 2011. At one time, I contacted Scott to see if he had made any improvements, and he said he had, and offered to upgrade my tune for not very much money, IIRC
This is a general question and one can have many different interpretations, as what was the octane of the file made for? Tip or man trans car? How old is the tune as we have been making them for these cars since 2006 and have made changes as Porsche has over the years. There are also other factors that influence a car such as the type of and make of aftermarket parts installed on it and so on.
Canned tunes I would consider as one made tune for all of a specific model selected and then perhaps by octane reproduced and sold the same to all. Softronic does not make files in this fashion....

My files were created in 2011 for 93 Octane in a 2007 997.1 Turbo Manual. I never got back with you on a new file. Have there been any significant changes since then? My car runs so well, I was afraid to tinker with it. I have made mistakes before tinkering with other things to the point the returns were negative.
Similarly...... I have had my tune since about the end of 2011 and it has been flawless.
Mine is a 2007 997.1, with 93 Octane tune with Tiptronic. Scott did provide me with an upgraded file about a year later, but not sure if there is a newer one? I would be game to try it. Mine now has 200 cell cats, headers, maxflow 3 -Fabspeed mufflers, 997.2 intercoolers, do88 inlet ducts...etc.

For further clarification I am not unhappy with the tune. The car drives very smooth and the power delivery is very predictable. What I am trying to understand is what I can reasonably expect from the car. The description of the performance software product on your website indicates 590/600 hp/tq (an increase of 110/140 hp/tq) on an unmodified car on 93 octane after tuning. On 91 octane, with full exhaust, should I expect similar results or should I expect it to make much less due to the octane limitation?
If you have specific questions about the car please send me a PM and I will get back to you.

Thanks, again, to the folks who responded with their experiences with Softronic.
As an update, Scott reached out to me and we had a great conversation. Scott took a fair amount of time out of his day to explain his process of tuning and what to reasonably expect in terms of power output. He was very honest about what to expect and didn't try to sell me anything or tell me what I wanted to hear. I appreciated his candor and can understand why those of you who responded to my question are happy with his product and his company.
