Michelin pilot super sport vs. PS2
Michelin pilot super sport vs. PS2
It's time for new tires for my 2008 turbo and I'm stuck between the PSS and the PS2. Reps between tire rack, discount tires.com, and Michelin tell me that the PSS is more advanced, cheaper, have a longer road life. The PS2 is N rated and the PSS is not. My adviser at my local Porsche dealership said that he wouldn't hesitate using the PSS while two guys behind the parts counter say that the N rated tires are a product of research by the Porsche engineers and Michelin and they would use N rated tires.
I would appreciate some input.

ps4
My research has revealed that the pilot sport 4 is replacing the ps2. It was just made available in March. I think that's the way to go if you're willing to ignore the N rating.
The new p4s is replacing the pss and is a dual compound design. It is suppose to be fantastic and from the people that went to the launch and drive past and ps4 back to back on the same car they said is was a noticeable improvement. That's an improvement on basically the best all around summer performance tire made so its saying a lot.
I'd look into p4s. Ps2 is old tech now and as far as I know are being completely phased out of production

tirerack.com has them in stock.

I would certainly not be overly concerned with the N rating. There are many very good tires available without that rating, and at least 1 tire (Pirelli) that is N rated and, in my opinion, is a very poor tire. The PSS has an excellent rep, and the PS4 is said to be even better.
Ps4
Still waiting to try out these PS4's, my car has been at the dealership for a week. They're having difficulty balancing them. The tire rack has sent a second set and one of those tires has a road force balance number of 51! (acceptable is below 26). Tire rack says the problem is the balancer (and poss. need for calibration), the dealership says the tires are a problem. Hopefully they calibrate the machine today (or sometime before my car is an antique!)
