997.2 Turbo PDK Launch control 0-60 best tires options for street car
Hey guys just wanting some feedback for the best tire options to get the best 0-60 on a Street driven 997.2 Turbo PDK with Tune + Exhaust
I have had Porsche recently do a PDK reprogram and the car has been performing better.
Considering Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Michelin Pilot CUP 2
note: R888 would be too hardcore for a street car
-I have heard some people after a tune have actually gotten slower 0-60 times on LC due to traction in 1st gear.
-Also some people who have changed to better tires found that there was some adaptation time to get better 0-60
-And others have found that with some wheelspin the car actually gets better 0-60 times.
Kind Regards
Rohan

R888 is not too hardcore for street use unless you daily drive in all weather. I have Cup 2's on a tuned 997.2 PDK S and it's a beast. They wear out quick though. I go through a set of tires a summer. Although, if you are using launch control in a $100,000 car every weekend cost of tires is probably not a concern. Or its just worth the fun!
Once you hit around 550 wheel torque on these car, which is generally a tune, exhaust, intercooler set up, you will blow off the stock tires using launch control.
I had PSS. Stock 0-60 was around 2.8-2.9. With a GIAC tune and IPD plenum I was down to 2.6-2.7. 1/4 mile was mid-10's at 130.X. Once I did exhaust intercoolers and reflash, LC just blew off those Michelins and no matter how I tried I couldn't get 0-60 under 3 seconds. So I picked up some r888's and well the rest is history. Hardest launching car on the planet on an unprepped surface.

interesting I guess with any cars that run sub 3seconds 60 you burn the tires no matter what you do. how many miles you get out of a set of r888? how many miles do you usually do in your car in a year? I drive mine about 3 times a week and do about 4k miles a year. i'm located in Australia so we run 1 set of tires all year round as we don't get snow or anything but of course it rains but then on those days I usually drive another car were possible.
I drive around 5k miles per year and r888's can last 10,000 miles for me if i just stick with street driving with the occasional airstrip event. But if I use them for road racing they might only last 3-4 track days.
I find them to be fantastic the rain. They are also fairly comfortable and don't tram. The one downside is how loud they are. First 1,000 miles they are fairly quiet but soon thereafter are loud - like you are sitting in a commercial jet, and worse at particular speeds like 60mph is the worst.

Longboarder Do you know anything about the new R888R? Are they less loud?

Have you logged your 0-60 or 1/4? Do you get much wheelspin with the cup 2 in LC?
