i had been pondering getting new intercoolers but hadn't pulled the trigger , and then a deal fell in my lap for turbo's . how necessary are they, and if so are the GT2 units enough ?

Extremely important. It takes higher boost pressures for the bigger units to really shine and the stock 997.1 ICs are simply garbage. Intake air temps rocket up even on a single gear pull. The 997.2 units are fine. They flow and cool much better.

when you stick a bigger compressor wheel in a small cover you create heat. you absolutely need intercoolers.

Are those two model numbers are the exact same unit as in the 997.2/GT2RS? Haven't seen them listed as a non Porsche part number before.

If you are running Protomotive's E85 tune and you are on stock inlets, you for sure would notice a difference in spool and everywhere else!! The upgraded inlets are for sure a first before intercoolers if you are flowing that much air (E85 tune ).

Again running E85 would save you some from not upgrading intercoolers, but FOR SURE that should be your next mod!

Sorry I read with out "reading"!! All I saw was do88 and just assumed their inlets and didn't read coolers.

Either way I hope you have larger inlets (cold side) that goes from your intake to the cold side I take of your turbos.

Enjoy your new coolers and let us know your thoughts on how they improve your performance.
